    Removing rust from magazines

I have some very old magazines I pulled out of storage and Hoppes with a lot of elbow grease just doesn't seem to get the rust out. Does anyone have any experience with Krud Kutter or the like? I'd like to get them looking good again.

You could try some WD40, or if you can find it I recently ordered some Simichrome online and it removed the rust I had on some mags and also left it with a protective coat like polish does.

Even if you get them pretty, what's the insides looking like?

Yeah that's exactly the reason I want something that'll take it off by my soaking it. The other ideas are really good too, though.

Best thing I've ever used to remove rust from a firearm was Kroil Oil; SiliKroil, to be exact.

Spray down, let soak, and the rust came off with a T-shirt and toothbrush.

I've used Krud kutter many times. More of a degreaser. Works very well at getting stains and any other gunk off of things. Not sure about rust tho. It's non toxic which is cool but still makes you cough a bunch if you accidentally are down wind of the spray. Painters use it a lot because it breaks down dried latex paint. It's a good cleaning agent.

Is Naphta or something else stronger than Hoppes? I was hoping to be able to leave them in a container with some sort of agent and have it eat away at the rust without degrading the metal.

Soak in oxalic acid, rinse, dry, then oil them up. I've done this a few times, doesn't kill the metal. After you're done with the acid, neutralize with baking soda and dump. Takes rust and metal stains out of wood too.

Balistol. Sold both in aerosol and liquid. I've soaked lots of stuff and always been happy.

there are some good choices already here but here is what I use:
Big 45 - its like steel wool but its not steel and it REALLY cleans rust off without taking off bluing. Amazing stuff.
A Must for Every Gun Dealer, Gunsmith, Shooter & Collector! Since 1967 - Big 45 Frontier Metal Cleaner is a must for every Gun Owner. Scientifically Alloyed - It is one of the best improvements in Gun Cleaning of the Century. &quotIt is one of the...

                      then I protect with this
AMS/OIL MP (regular, not heavy duty) synthetic that actually creates molecular bond with iron and keeps it protected. (the heavy duty also leaves a heavy film of silicon which I don't like)

You can also use the spray inside the mag and the rust will come out easily with just a light wipe.
