    PPT AR pistol? Lower only?

I'm seeing conflicting info so figued I'll ask.

Since PPT is roster exempt, am I correct in assuming that one can FTF transfer an AR pistol through an FFL without issue? And what if the seller still has the lower stripped?

I may be wrong on this but I'll take a shot. You can PPT an AR pistol no problem. A PPT is not required to be on roster.

A pistol lower without an upper may be a problem however. You won't be able to complete the safe handling demonstration without an upper. If you have a CCW you are exempt from this though and shouldn't have a problem. also, you could borrow an upper from someone and some shops will let you use an upper to do the safe handling.

The shop can put a rifle upper on it for the safe handling demonstration or have it done on another AR pistol.

For the record, I am in no way knowledgeable on this subject, but I recently picked up an AR lower from my FFL and was told that there was no safe handling demonstration requirement for lower receivers. Wouldn't this apply to pistols as well?

AR stripped lowers are DROS'd as long guns, not pistols.

Doesn't the new FSC have the safe handling requirement for all guns? For some reason I thought it did.

i have a question about this.

How can you be sure it was registered (if SSE'd in the first place) as a pistol not a rifle?

If you tried to PPT a "pistol" but it was originally a rifle, what would happen to you as the buyer?

Not if it's already been registered as a pistol. He's also talking about a complete pistol lower.

Ah yes, if already registered as a pistol. He then asked about a stipped lower. Still has to do the demo unless exempt.

The demo can be done on another weapon of similar design if I remember correctly. If your FFL considers an AR rifle close enough, you could do the demo on any AR they have in the shop.

I had a ffl refuse to a ppt on stripped pistol lower. Ammo bros will do if u have the original DROS record as a pistol.

I think it will really just depend on your FFL. Some are very well read on the technicalities of the law, others less so.
