    The Classic S&W Model 27

A couple years ago I got on the classifieds here and saw a brand new ad selling a S&W Model 27-2. I knew it couldn't be the desirable 3 1/2" version but it was. And it was only 15 minutes from me. It was priced under $500 because the trigger binded on double action. That cost $40 to get fixed. This gun is considered much too heavy for a .357 nowadays which is true. But it is a true classic, favored by the FBI and General Patton.

Coincidentally, there's one for sale in the marketplace right now for a meagre $2,200.

Very nice piece. I think that the extra weight is an advantage with the 3-1/2" barrel.

$2200????? Is the seller smoking crack?. That is Python money and is at least a grand too high for a 27-2, even if it has the presentation case and accessories. I recently bought one out of a LGS that looks new for $750.

Sounds like the seller has been looking at listings on Gunbroker without checking for closed auctions where the gun actually sold.

2200 lmao. Too many people in the marketplace have been hitting the pipe. I picked up a clean 66-1 last year for $400 at a lgs. Even came with the classic wood grips which I sold for $60

Why would 3 1/2" be desirable? Rare, yes. Because nobody wanted them when they were being made. Wastes the high velocity into a fireball.

How's that a waste? Sounds like a selling point.

Picking up a good deal and market price are two different things.

If you guys think I'm high, so be it. But the price is market rate. S&W forum agrees. Try finding a presentation case and sheep horn grips. Of course you get to add the always fun out of state transfer fees of $100 and sales tax.
What would be a typical ,average replacement value in LNIB 99%+ 3.5 " (1978)AND 5" (1972)27-2's? 3.5 inch comes in presentation case and a sleeve, 5 inch just in original blue box.

The 3 1/2 is not that rare. The 4 inch is more scarce. Many more 3 1/2 inch were made than either 4 or 5 inch. The two most common are 3 1/2 and 6 inch.

Can you clarify what you mean by this please?

As for "value" unless it was THE gun carried by Patton, it's a 357 revolver. Don't get me wrong, I love them. My late 80's vintage 686 and my recent gp100 are both awesome guns. I'd take them to hell and back with me. I love wheel guns and would never feel under gunned with one.

Value is subjective and arbitrary for sure, but true value is inherently based on an item's utility. Does that gun really shoot that much better than the 686 or gp100? And if so, by what margin? The whole "rare" thing is so overabused. So what if there were only a small run made. That's a nice gun for sure, but what good is a gun that's hanging on the wall? Guns were meant to be shot. If ya can't shoot it for fear of it losing "value" then to me it's worthless.

I'll bet that thing is a great shooter. If it was mine, it'd be shot. A lot!!!

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.
