An Old School Colt .45 Big Bore Belly Gun

This is a cut down Colt Model 1917 .45 ACP, made in 1920. It has a very smooth action and was occasionally carried off duty by a previous owner who was a long retired cop. Shown next to a 1951 Colt Cobra for size comparison. It was bare metal finish when I got it and I like it that way.

Great guns. Nothing like old school badassery. Thanks for sharing the pics and story.

I always wanted to do something similar to my s&w 1917, I even have the perfect host gun that has already been refinished.

Man, I'd love to have one just like that.

Very nice. Is the DA pull lightened at all? Usually they have a very heavy pull but a belly gun should be DA only.

No BS straight up, personal protection. Really like the looks.

It is about the same as my Python. In all the times I shot it, it failed once to pop a primer and that concerned me. It was with that Fiochhi ammo. I have another New Service that has a much heavier D.A. pull as did the three others I've owned over the years. I trust this gun enough to take it on road trips for protection.
