    Best 1911 under $1700

I've recently been bitten by the 1911 bug. I'm actually thinking about selling my Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded with some custom work and my Springfield XD 45 in my quest to purchase a high end 1911. I'm sort of partial to Spingers I guess but definately am not ruling out other options. I like rails but can live without them. Must have night sights. Must be full size.

IMO since you like Springers, maybe consider sending out your loaded (or buy a GI) to the Springfield custom shop and have them build the 1911 to YOUR specs. I have yet to find an out of the box 1911 that had everthing how I would want it to be.

Just thowing out an option for you.

+1 for that I couldnt agree more. Les Baer Premier II is in that price range and would be the best choice for a high end 1911.

The Les Baer would be the best choice for the budget you have. I would get a Permier II and never look back.

Get a Baer TRS or Custom Carry. End of discussion.

You're partial to Springers? You can pick up a Custom Carry for $1750 OTD. It's a solid choice if you don't like front cocking serrations, and the components used in it are the same ones the Springfield Custom Shop uses in the Professional. The Custom Carry is to the Pro what the Baer Concept II is to the SRP.

And don't forget, you'll have Springfield's lifetime warranty and excellent customer service.

On the other hand, I love my Baer. The Custom Carry was a gift, but I paid for my Baer myself, so that should tell you something. Any Baer will be a great gun, and they have the most bang for the buck in the semi-custom world. You'll have the biggest selection for your price point with Baer.

BM, I like my Custom Carry, but it has quite a lot to prove before it overtakes my Concept II. My Baer finally has that buttery feeling, and the trigger has broken in quite nicely. It's still a PITA to rack the slide on the Springer, and the trigger is not nearly as good as the Baer's at this point. But at least it's as accurate as the Concept II.

At that price point, there's not much competition to the PII, TRS or Custom Carry...

Unless you can find a nice used Wilson in that price range.

They don't make the SRP in SS as far as I can tell. So I think I'll be going with the Custom Carry if I can find one on the cheap.

                              Thanks guys
