    ME calculation

    I've just spent some time figuring out how to calculate ME, in ft-lbs, given MV, in fps, and bullet weight, in grains. Here's the equation, accurate to 3 decimal places:

    ME = MV^2 * weight * 2.22e-6

      I have memorized:

      Weight x MV^2 / 450390 = ME in ft/lbs

      easy to remember and it seems to work.

      comparing the two yours comes out to:
      test variables = 125gr @ 1350fps (.357sig)

      ME = 505.743 ft/lbs

      mine (same variables):

      ME = 505.811 ft/lbs

        2.22e-6 makes for a very simple factor to memorize since we always think in terms of grains and fps. A little easier to memorize than to divide by 450390 (which is the same thing)

        Thank you Pipe Smoker.
