    S&W 1911's...

As of about last week, I didn't know they made 1911's...

    Thoughts about them?

I have one and anyone who has been to the monthly Insight shoot can tell you that it is laser accurate, also, it has an external extractor and is an 80 series type, but, it doesn't have a trigger disconnect and therefore is not on the roster.

If you are local I'll be at this months shoot and I would be more than happy to let you put a magazine through it for yourself.

If I had a lot of money, I would buy some.

They are made in the USA. I have heard of a few guns that had problems, but nothing chronic. They are more expensive than some of the guns made by Springfield and Rock Island.

I can't remember if I shot one. I think a friend of mine that wheels and deals in different guns had one (*) that he let me shoot. Other than having better finish and workmanship, I didn't notice anything different than my beat-up old Springfield (accuracy wise with factory ball ammo).

      * - it was a 1911 with fish scales on the slide, so I am guessing it was a S&W.

They are great pistols. Smith had been making 1911 parts for a ton of OEM's before they decided to get Into selling 1911's themselves. No worries about the external extractor by the way as it is pretty much a direct copy of the extractor on the 3rd gen pistol!s. It's pretty much bullet proof. They are 100% american made with forged frames and slides.

I have a S&W 1911sc-e and its a fantastic gun, my favorite one at the moment. No issues, feeds and shoots well and looks very nice.

To me anyway, the SW1911's are done very well, like most anything else S&W puts out. I have a couple of the more basic ones with standard length slides, steel frames, and which haven't gone through the "Performance Center." These have been very reliable and accurate to shoot. Not as nice triggers out of the box as compared to some others I have shot (e.g.: Springfield Operator, Dan Wesson), but not bad at all.

Fortunately before I bought ours S&W had changed from the HUGE banner printing on the slide. Too bad none of them are on the roster any more.

Totally agree. I regret selling my E series to a buddy of one. It's one of the best pistols I've owned. Very accurate. At least I know I have the chance to buy it back one of these days.

I have the bottom one in TMH1's photo above- standard SW1911 with black grips. Was first handgun I ever bought- that was 7 years ago- think it was around $800- not performance center, just standard model and never have done any mods to it.

Since that time I have acquired a lot of semi auto pistols- all 9mm and .45- Sig's, HK, Berettas, etc,etc- to this day as my primary bedside handgun and range gun and also taken numerous classes w it, I have never had one ftf- it has run 100% flawless since day 1 w all types of FMJ and JHP.

To put it simply, one of best purchases I ever made- I trust my life w it as bedside gun and know it will go bang every time. Yes there's a tiny bit of play in the trigger compared to my Wilson Combat CQB and SA TRP Operator but fact it has been so reliable, and special cause my first handgun purchase, I will always love my SW1911. Extremely solid and well made handgun for me.

My first 1911 was the SW1911 DK .45 (not the PC one) and it has ran very well, its the one with the smaller external extractor before they increased it, then went back to 70 series. I have ran FMJ and various hollow points through it. I have ran the factory ACT mags and CHip MCk power 8 and 10 round mags with out any failures yet. On mine the frame to slide fit is real good and is blended very well in the rear. My only issue was a sloppy fitted trigger (movement up and down) which I replaced with a C&S short reach. Lifetime warranty doesn't hurt either. As far as being an 80 series is correct but instead of the two piece arms that work off trigger its a one piece that works off of the grip safety to depress firing pin safety.

I have the all black E Series with rail and besides a poorly fitted thumb safety it's a dream to shoot

Jeez, now that I think of it, why don't we just add a "No Crimes Allowed" sign in front of every city? Crime problem solved, police disbanded, instantly.
