    1911 grips

I have my first 1911 coming out of jail this Wednesday and I already know that I will want some better grips for it. Based on reviews and reading I am interested in either the Hogue Rubber Grip Panels Checkered with Diamonds or the Hogue Rubber Grip Panels with Palm Swell Any recommendations for these or other? It's hard to order online when you haven't felt them, but I don't have shops around here where I can actually see them.

They're basic, no nonsense grips. Keep the rubber ones tend to collect dry skin and also can snag on your shirts if you are CCWing.

Are they really an improvement over the factory ones?

Since you're looking at these, i'm assuming the 1911 you're getting is a relatively inexpensive model like a RIA or something?

I'd save a few dollars for some VZs IMO.

Yep, it's the RIA Tactical 2011 model. I don't plan on carrying this, my carry gun is a Shield, but I really didn't like the feel of the RIA grips. I'll take a look at the VZs you mentioned. Thanks

they're a little pricier, but are very well made and come in many many different styles.

ultimately worth it if you end up going through 3-4 sets of cheap grips only to not like em.

Hogue makes excellent g10 grips as well. I like them better than VZ.
My RIA & SA Loaded both have them.

The 2011's for RIA are indeed VZ's Operator2's. It's semi-aggressive, but you do get used to them or they wear down abit.

Grips will be purely preference, so anyone's preference is pretty moot. I personally really like the Operator2's (see what I mean).

If you like soft semi-squishy grips, the Hogue's soft (cobblestone) is the one to get. It's not aggressive at all though.

Pachmar's rubber wrap around are another option, not as soft as Hogue's soft but closer to Hogue's checkered overmold.

Thanks. You're right, I should use it for a while before deciding how to modify it. I'm just excited to pick it up this week and thinking about it and what I might want to do.

You could also look for some nice cocobolo grips they are pleasant to handle and look awesome.

Really happy with my VZ's here but I have houge wrap arounds on my ruger p89. They are nice but do make the gun fatter in the hand. The houge' are really nice when my hands are sweaty or oily.

i am currently using the magpuls on my Colt vs. a pain of VZ's i used to use

they are VERY slim and the magazine relief cut is very well done.
