    S&W Model 610 10mm?

How many have seen this gun and or shot it and how much would one cost if found?

Isn't the point of a 10mm to be in a semi auto platform?

The gun looks sweet from a collectibles perspective.

BTW - S&W has an official forum site. If you've not tried asking the question there, you might consider doing so as they seem to be quite dedicated S&W over there and will answer right away. That's been my experience.

I owned 2 of them, sold one a couple of years ago, still have the other. Just didn't need 2.

Shoots either 40 or 10 without issue. Moonclips are required to shoot auto ammo.

It is an 'N' frame revolver, which until the really big calibers came along, was S&W's largest frame.

They are in very heavy demand which is reflected in the price. There has been word of late that S&W is bringing them out again, but not confirmed.

Tough to find anywhere, REALLY tough to find in CA....especially since they're not roster listed as they are not new. You'll need to find a used one for a PPT most likely.

I have one 610-3 to be specific. The older prelock ones are more desirable but they are hard to find and desirable in general.

Ive barely shot mine due to 10mm ammo not being that cheap. Yes it can shoot 40sw out of it and the moon clips are cheap.

Great weight due to the frame size and the pistol is tack driver but so are most SW revolvers.

Im contemplating selling it but when will i ever come across one again.

I have a 610 "no dash" in 6" that I bought a few years back. Got it used but "NIB" from San Jose Gun Exchange for $800.00 - no idea if it would cost about the same now. I bought it because I like auto chamberings in revolvers and really don't like losing my brass. The pistol has a full length lug and is very pleasant to shoot, about like shooting 38 Special from a K38. Easy to reload for and of course plinking with cheap 40 S & W ammo is fun when I don't want to reload.

                  I shoot Underwood 45Supers of 185gr at 1300fps and 230gr at 1100fps from my 625JM for near 10mm performance.

Unless you need 100yd performance ... why bother?

And yes, I wanted a 610 also ... but not anymore.

                  I would have preferred a 5in barrel.

I considered selling mine only a few years after I bought it in around '98 because I favored my autos in 10mm. Made little sense to have a wheelgun in 10 mil to me. It's a pre-lock unfluted 3" Lew Horton run. I posted in a now defunct gun forum that I was considering selling it, and the response was so overwhelming I decided not to. Didn't actually say I was going to sell it, so I didn't screw anybody over.

The guys in USPSA/IDPA and the like absolutely adore them - it fits a niche in the rules that gives it several advantages. It'll make major power factor (that's a competition category for those unfamiliar) and reloads with moonclips (which are faster than speedloaders). It's pretty well the only revolver that will do both of those.

It makes even the heaviest 10mm loads pretty tame due to its weight.

You can ream a 610 for 10mm Magnum chambering quite easily, thus making it a 3-trick pony without having to worry about magazine mods.

Mine (4" unfluted 610-3) happens to be the most accurate handgun I own. I got it primarily because it was cheap at the time and I had decided to start collecting 10mm's, though, more than any other reason.

I fired my 1006 and 610 once in the same session and the 610 seemed to have a little more felt recoil, same ammo. I know it can vary between individuals but that was my conclusion.
