    .460 rowland threaded barrel.

    Okay,

Just got off the phone with Clark Custom Guns, and was about to purchase a .460 Rowland kit to put on my Kimber Custom II that I just ordered for this very reason. The guy on the phone indicated to me that the barrel is threaded to accept the compensator and that I would not be allowed to put that on a firearm in this state.

    IIRC he is right.

So can I get the compensator silver soldered or pinned or something like that so its one piece???

Also any suggestions on the best way to have the compensator permanently fixed???

Threaded barrel on a pistol is an AW.

It can be permanently attached (like you said, silver solder and/or blind pin), but then you won't be able to remove your barrel from your slide (which is the compromise that some shooters make by having a brake/compensator permanently attached to their pistols.)

Why wouldn't you be able to remove the barrel from the slide? The barrel and compensator should still come out of the slide as normal as far as I know from compensated .45's that I've handled.

The barrels on 1911s are installed and removed from the front of the slide. He should be able to install and uninstall it without issue.

Clark thinks its still illegal even if its soldered on. So I guess I'm going to have to figure out something else. Unless I can prove that I can solder it on and it is considered permanently attached.

Me owning the barrel threaded but not installed is not illegal in the state; correct? That way I could actually have the compensator permanently installed to the barrel here.

There is no constructive possession for AWs in CA.

Having the barrel and the firearm in which it operates does not make an AW, until you assemble it.

I feel you pain buddy. I am in the same boat you are. I have the Springfield ready for the conversion but now I need to have the comp pinned to the barrel.

I'm certainly not advocating illegal behaviour, but I wonder how you would even get on LEO radar with an installed compensator. No exposed threads, no way to easily install a "silencer" which are already prohibited in the first place.

When the Walther P22's had to be modfied due to their threaded barrels/retaining nuts (which made it onto the approved list, showing how far under the radar some of this stuff runs), it's my understanding that they just used some type of epoxy that was so strong it destroyed the barrel if you tried to remove it. The underlying barrel remained threaded.

That would seem to indicate that silver solder should be adequate for Clark's enlightenment.

I only have these definitions in 12276.1

                    (d) The following definitions shall apply under this section:
                    (1) "Magazine" shall mean any ammunition feeding device.
                    (2) "Capacity to accept more than 10 rounds" shall mean capable of
accommodating more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to
include a feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it
cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.
                    (3) "Antique firearm" means any firearm manufactured prior to
                    January 1, 1899.
                    (e) This section shall become operative January 1, 2000.

So where does it define capable of accepting so I know that welding the barrel will work???

This stuff can give one a headache. Sheesh.

If you figure out where to get this done, let me know. I'm stuck at this point myself. I just bought the 1911, last Friday; only three more days to go and its mine, and now I can't convert it.

The slide for my Wilson Combat was returned from Clarks today with the compensator pinned and welded. And it IS removeable from the slide. The BIG problem is assembling the gun with that 24# slide.
