    Slippery 1911 slide

When I do brass checks, or chamber a round my hand feels very slippery. When pulling the slide back it just feels very oily. Any suggestions ? I had moments when I pull the slide back and my hand slips from the slide.

dont oil the outside of the slide, wipe it down with a dry rag or paper towel to get whatever oil is on there off

take acetone to the outside of the slide and remove the oils from the slide and apply skateboard tape
give 'em the whole 9 yards

Why are you doing press checks that often?
What technique to rack the slide are you using?

                  Try this -
                  Not this -

If you still have problems, you should work on having a more firm grip on your gun.

With my 1911s I learned that lowering the hammer on a loaded chamber is foolish. Don't get me wrong, I'm a 1911 kind of guy. When I'm carrying any of my 1911s for defense or hunting I carry them in mode 1 or 3.

I can understand press checking the gun. If I set a gun down even when I know my wife will not load or unload a round in the chamber, I press check or clear the gun depending what reason I'm handling it for. If the gun is on you and you continually to press check the gun then something is wrong.

I notice a lot of action shooters have developed a bad habit. At the club range practicing or shooting a match you'll see when a shooter is given the, "Free to handle gun", by the RO. You'll notice the shooter press checking or racking the slide to check and show the RO the gun is not live. If you have done this hundreds of time you'll develop the habit of press checking every time you take the gun out of holster. It's not a bad habit to make sure the gun is clear and safe. It's a bad habit when you're carrying for defense/duty and you continue to press check when the gun never left your control.

The reason it's slippery is because you scotch brited the finish off the weapon.

Then you asked how to protect it, and people told you to oil it or it will rust since it's raw steel.

Frankly, I'm not sure you should have a loaded weapon without supervision. It's not going to unload itself. Why are you press checking it all the time. And "press check" doesn't invovle grabbing the slide on a 1911 anyway, but I'm not going to explain that to you, because I'm not sure you can do it without extreme danger.

                          Carry on.

That's a shame. If you invest in one of these, you might not have to desecrate your gun like that:

I wouldn't take the oil off that bare metal.

Maybe go down to Dicks and get yourself a pair of those wide receiver gloves.
