Hi, I'm getting a Les Baer SRP as a trade and here's my question: Any place I can get an accessory rail installed on this pistol, something of good quality. I know blah blah blah 1911 pistols should not have rails but I've always shot railed 1911s with a light on them, so it's just what I'm used to.

If you don't know how to shoot a 1911 with a hand held light you're missing out. Once you figure that out you'll understand why light rails are a gimmick to many.Comment

Thing is most of my training was with rail mounted lights, so I'm used to what I'm used to. I've used hand held lights with pistols but I find rail mounted set up easier to use due to what I'm used to.Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.Comment

I personally wouldn't make a permanent modification to such a beautiful gun like that. If you want to mount a light, I would suggest the Lightguard from Crimson Trace.

I heard a story today about how years ago some prince over in India had one of his Rolls Royce Silver Clouds modified as a safari type vehicle. It worked just fine for him although others were puzzled why he didn't just buy a Land Cruiser in the first place

Considering the number of posts and itrade ratings you have, youmust be pretty knowledgeable about guns and their values. Nevertheless, here is my friendly advice. Mostly because I (and most people I know) would not pay a nickle for a 1911 that had an after market rail welded, glued or scrwed to it being a Baer, Wilson or even a Harp or a Cabot.

Or the following one for less than $75 if you prefer a rail system and you can restore the 1911 to its original shape without permanenet damage.
Our pistol accessories include non SBR/NFA Pistol Conversion Kits, Picatinny Rail Adapters, Charging Handles, Holsters for Sig, 1911, Glock, S&W, P80, and more.

Consider the several hundreds of dollars gunsmithing cost of attaching a rail and refinishing the gun, and then you have turned your $2000 Baer into a bastardized $800 gun. That is if anyone would buy it at all. It is yours and you can do as you wish.
Best of luck to you sir.

Seriously thinking about adding a rail to this Baer? The value is going to drop a lot. Honestly, sell it and buy Sig with a rail for 900 and keep the rest. Please don't ruin this Baer.sigpicComment

I think this horse has been pretty much beat to death at this point, but the philosophy of use for a weapon mounted light is an offensive or defensive situation. Sounds like you already own plenty of pistols that fit into that category so I would leave this one as is. Considering the value, its is more of a collector/fun shooter piece and I think would be best to keep it that way. I love 1911's with rails and think they look dead sexy, but not as an after thought.
Keep it to enjoy it for what it is or sell it for something you are more comfortable with. However, it never hurts to expand you comfort zone either.sigpicComment

Another vote for making no permanent modification to the Baer.
Also since I'm not on a SWAT team, I'm not a fan of having to point my weapon at anything I want the light to illuminate.Comment

Don't do it! The only proper railed Baer is the URP with a Caspian frame
However, ultimately it's your gun, there are ways to do it. My guess would be that if you asked a gunsmith to do it, he'll cringe, but take your money anyway.
