    G2 RIP Ammo

Hey all- I saw that LAX got in some G2 RIP ammo, looks like they could be great home defense loads but they're super pricey. ($55+ for 20 rds of .45 ACP)
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? Is it worth the price? Just a gimmick?

I heard that it's a gimmick....they claim to penetrate cinder block and expand a lot when hitting a human body....how can you have both? They looked pretty cool, but I've only heard that they didn't perform like advertised.

It does a great job of making watermelons and jugs of water explode violently. Beyond that, I think ballistics tests have shown that it doesn't perform as well as a hollow point.

Agreed. I've seen a couple 3rd party tests and they break apart just too easy.

The rear base of the bullet retains most of the weight and because of supersonic velocity plus it has enough mass to go deep in to tissue. The shreds are only useful in soft targets obviously not on any cinder blocks.

Good stuff- thanks for the replies, yeah the cinder block was a bit much but they definitely look nasty...

its gimmicky, just stick to traditional JHP ammo, i recommend Federal HST, its a pretty reasonable priced bullet, that expands and penetrates pretty well. there are others out there out also, but i know HST works for all my current handguns, and i am comfortable knowing that they feed well.

                      good luck

stay away from the G2 ammo, check out youtube ballistics tests on them and you will see they arent that amazing

Great thinking outside the box, but in the end there are much better defensive rounds.

That is definitly a waste of money. Heck, i don't even bother with JHPs. Just regular winchester white box or remington umc and I'd realy like to see a perp taking a couple of those in the middle and stand to argue. why waste $2.50 a round when you can do it at $.40 each.

I see that you're not really big on the science of ballistics...or anatomy for that matter.
