    Beretta 92F Compact

So I have an offer to trade one of my guns for a Beretta 92F Compact. The bluing looks great from the pics Ive seen so far.

What are some things you guys would keep an eye out for with receiving one that is used? Im meeting the owner to inspect it in the next few days (and naturally he is going to be looking at my weapon) and I dont know much about Berettas.

I cleaned a lot of full sized Berettas in the Army but never got issued one or had the privledge to shoot one (I was lower enlisted and only senior NCOs or officers in my unit got sidearms, we just had to clean their guns for them). So I know basic disassembly/reassembly but other than that, Im a total noob to the platform. Are there any warning signs I should look out for when I get to check her out? (like the idiot scratch on a 1911 or the lack of an audible 'click' on a manual safety...etc)

Look for cracks in the slide.

Ok, so that means it does not have the enlarged hammer pin and it may have an older style locking block. Definitely inspect the slide for cracks as fonzy suggested, and plan on replacing the locking block with a brand new/3rd gen unit. Generally speaking, it's also a good idea to replace the springs on a gun that old. The hammer and recoil spring are a given, and Beretta trigger springs do have a little bit of a reputation for breaking when they age beyond their service life in time or round count.
