Making a glock 9mm on a 3d printer UPDATE! 4/23/2015

Yep, I'm gonna make a near full plastic glock 9mm pistol with a 3d printer.

Just want to ask a few questions:

1: what color should I make it?

2: how many should I make?

And of course I'm going to add enough metal to make it legal.

Some calgunners stated that it needs a metal striker, I forgot to mention that I will in fact be using one

It will look exactly like this:




Poll is for if you guys think it will function with plastic projectiles at extremely reduced loads.

Chamber it in 22 short and spring it for cci cb shorts and it may last lol, except the barrel

When I answered poll I was thinking you were asking about just the frame not the whole 9 yards, it wasn't till I read your post in its entirety which was asked at the bottom of the last photo did I realize by what you meant

Plastic striker won't have enough mass and hardness to set the primer off.

I made one way less sophisticated then this in prison and worked fine...

I've currently got a .22 pistol made out of a hose nozzle, melted plastic bottles, rolled, cut, aluminum cans, held in place with syrup and wet newspaper, fired by a screw and a rubber band.

I'm sure you'll have no problems OP.

Not the primer cup, I don't think that'll work. Thinking of just shooting it with the primer only, it may even cycle from that. If that doesn't work I'll add 0.1 grains till it does. Projectile and casing will be plastic though. I will also have to adjust the recoil spring accordingly which may be interesting.

A couple thoughts...wouldn't a much lighter slide change your spring power requirements? Also if the barrel is plastic, the projectile must be made of a softer material than the inside of the barrel.

Yup, I stated earlier that I would probably have to experiment with that. For all I know, a stretched out pen spring is all that's needed. As for the bullet being softer you are correct. The barrel probably won't last long shooting bullets the same hardness as the barrel. I could cast some bullets out of wax or glue. I've done it before with decent results.

It actually may work with a more flexible plastic, you can use those cap gun caps on a black powder revolver
