    Which one?

I'm looking to buy a handgun in the reasonably near future, and of all the firearms I've been able to try at the range, the most comfortable/shootable for both me and my fiance has been the Taurus PT92. However, they do not have a Beretta for rent. My question is, will the Beretta be significantly different in terms of feel or will it just have better fit, finish, and quality control?

I kind of prefer the safety on the Taurus, but I'd rather have the better built gun, and they can be had without too much price difference these days from the right source.

Thanks in advance for the input guys. You're always a great help.

Nah but seriously if you do not want a much better handgun and decide on the Beretta i would definitely get the Beretta and not the taurus...

I think the Taurus is a great gun. I owned one and never had a problem with it, the only reason I sold it is because I had a Sig in the same caliber that got more range time and I wanted the money for something drastically different. The feel and control of the gun is great and while a Taurus from 5+ years ago might have had quality issues, the company is always improving the standard of it's product. I did get to compare it to a beretta and wasn't significantly impressed with the difference, the main one being that it was slightly lighter than the Taurus. Plus the on-frame safety/decock as well as the loaded chamber indicator on the PT92 were better features. If you like it, get it, IMHO the beretta's price difference is the brand name.

I do recommend you shell out $20-25 extra bucks and get some Hogue grips to replace the stiff board factory ones, though.

If you're in Oxnard, go to "Shooters Paradise" and try out their Sigs if you haven't. They're great guns.

            Thanks for the advice, everyone.

The CZ75 is still on my "must try" list, but I have yet to find one to rent. And Chainsaw: Shooters is my most frequented range (they let me shoot my mosin inside) and I have tried their sig collection. There were a couple that are on my list for later on in the collection, but the lady didn't like them and the first one has to be for both of us.

I've been thinking about the PT92 as well.
The only concern I have is with their internal security lock system. Has anyone had any problems with this?
I know I've been having some problems concerning the security lock device on my PT111.

One of my first guns is the PT92, purchased back in 1992. The gun has been perfect for me even though I've neglected the maintenance occassionally. The recoil spring on mine is so weak by now that it provide very little resistance to the racking hand. The mag springs also have not be changed.

Yet it's still perfectly reliable. Great design.

It's a little big, but if you are happy with it, buy it. The Beretta cost more and is a little smoother over all, but the different is not that much in this regard. The biggest difference I feel is the grip panel of the Beretta vs. the Taurus, but that can be addressed with after market grips.
