    Glock 27 (gen 3) Customizations

Hello all, I'm looking at changing a few things with regards to the glock grip.

    My plan is to:

    1. Reduce the backstrap (thus reducing size of entire grip)
    2. Stipple gripping
    3. Undercut trigger guard (allow hand to get a bit higher up)
    4. Machined beavertail onto the grip (hopefully helping with control of muzzle flip and positive grip?), as opposed to adding the beavertail onto the back of the gun (which I think would also add thickness to the grip?)

My main question was with regards to the beavertail mod....does anyone have experience with them? How much do they help with muzzle flip, accuracy, and positive grip? It's $100 buck more on top of the other two upgrades. I've never had issues with slide bite, I have fairly normal size hands.

There's a place called Zev Technologies I plan on having the upgrades done too. Another option is Robar, but that would require shipping my gun to Texas....no thanks. Anyone have opinion on which is better?

    Thanks

What happened to Glock perfection? Mine is fine out of the box.

Beavertail mod adds to printing while concealed carrying. Not needed in my opinion.

Mine is too. But if I reduce the grip, I'd have a much easier time shooting with one hand. Shooting with 2 hands is no problem, but not always an option in a HD situation.

Now before you go doing what you're going to do, I would recommend you do it to a gun you're going to shoot a lot. A G27 isn't a gun people usually spend a lot of time shooting. I'd recommend a Glock 19 or 17.

I shipped a Glock to Robar, which is in AZ not TX, but it doesn't really matter. I've shipped a Glock to TX to Cold Bore Customs as well. Don't know why that is a deal killer.
I shoot the hell outa this gun, I mean about 500 rnds a month. I've considered putting the 9mm barrel conversion in it, but I like practicing with the .40 ammo, helps with being used to the snap.

I just feel strange shipping my weapon, not to mention extra cost. I'd rather drop it off and speak with the company face to face who will be modifying the firearm I intend to use for the next 5-10 years.

Sounds like the beavertail wouldn't do much good for me if its only about really about slide bite, I've never had that issue with my hands.

If it doesn't have a major contribution to my shooting ability, I'll skip that and save $100.

Had the beavertail worked to reduce muzzle flip, that'd be nice, but it wasn't priority compared to reducing the backstrap.

I've shot all standard sizes of the .40 cal, and for some reason I felt most comfortable with the G27. I like the .40 cal round, don't really want this thread to become a "which bullet is better" comparison.

Unfortunately, if I have the backstrap reduced, the grip force adapter won't fit, so that's not an option. Not to mention, I've heard that while the grip force works for what it is, it actually increases the diameter of the grip, which is opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Other than a piece of skateboard tape on top of the slide, in front of the rear site (same for all my semiauto handguns), good to go. Sounds like you have a bug to tinker and need a 1911.

What was bad about Zev's stipple gripping? Was it cosmetically unappealing, or was it not practical?

If its cosmetic, I'm not terribly concern about looks....it is after all a glock, am I right? *holds up high five hand nervously*

Got one already. Now I want a 1911 that can conceal carry like a glock 27.

The grip force adapter does add a small amount of material but what it does is to cause the rear of the gun to sit higher on your hand so that the front sight sits lower. This actually makes the glock point shoot like a 1911 or a cz75.

The only way to reduce the muzzle flip on a G27 is to run a slower load but heavier bullet that is still capable of cycling the slide or get a 9mm conversion barrel.

I have a thread where I do all this, with pics to follow along. If you have any questions or need any help send me a pm. Seems we both live in Central.
