Sig P220 Stainless (Pre-Elite) vs Regular - Any Differences?

I have been in the market for a Sig 220. Not too much info on the Sig website about the Pre-Elite P220 Stainless model. Apparently this model was discontinued in favor of the P220 Elite stainless which is not available here in CA. Are there any differences between the two guns, the Stainless model and Regular P220?

Besides the color I assume that one is obviously totally Stainless Steel while the regular model has only an Alloy Frame. The Sig website says the regular has a Stainless slide that is Nitron finished. What about the internals? Any difference there?

The P220STs were shipped with Hogue rubber grips. The regular P220 has smooth textured SIG plastic grips. The front strap checkering on a P220ST is also more aggressive. As far as the internals, I don't believe that there are any major differences.

On a side note, there are (2) different rails that came on the P220ST. One is a proprietary rail that would fit a P220Sport compensator. The other is SIGs version of a picatinny rail.

p220st is all stainless and the p220 stainless has an alloy frame I believe.

P220 ST (defunct): stainless steel frame AND stainless steel slide (machined)
Current production Plain Jane P220: aluminum alloy frame AND stainless steel slide (machined)
Old school P220: aluminum alloy frame AND folded sheet metal slide

The P220ST (with stainless frame) can be converted to 10mm. If you want to find out whether the P220 Elite can be converted to 10mm, consult sigforum, or contact Grayguns.

Really? Although I did not know this fact, it is not surprising since I have not been too interested in Sigs for that long. Is this a hard process to acomplish? I'm sure its something as simple as a slide/barrel swap similar to converting to the .22lr kit. Correct?

Definitely more involved than a drop-in barrel, that's for sure.

Just wanted to chime in and say my 220ST (old rail) is a frakkin' tack-driver. Absolutely love that gun.
