Am I the only one whos hand gets so messed up...

So I consider myself an ok shooter. Certainly not an expert but Im confident in my abilities. But two handguns in my collection constantly destroy my hand when shooting.

One is my glock 19c. I have decently large hands, and a pretty high grip so 100 rounds at the range will leave a pretty good slice (bleeding sometimes) on the web of my hand from the slide. Ive come to just accept it is part of shooting for me.

The second is my 1911. It has an extended beavertail and a larger safety (its a rock island tactical) and I always end up with a bloody spot right on my second knuckle of my thumb from what i assume is the slide, again i think due to my high grip.

There must be more of you out there that this happens to, I cant be the only one.

Anyone else have these issues? and if so, what firearms?

How are you gripping the gun that the slide hits your thumb, or the web of your hand? If I had to guess your grip is way too high. I can't even grip my Glock high enough that I would get hit by the slide and have a comfortable grip on it.

None of my guns hit the web of my hand but my Rock island safety lever does chew up my thumb from resting on it. That safety is just too big and sharp. I see a Dremel in its new future

It is entirely possible that its the safety thats chewing up my thumb. The gun is fairly new to me, so ive only put 200 rounds or so through it. The safety is indeed huge, and sharp as hell. I do rest my thumb on the safety while shooting, so it would actually make more sense being the safety.

My grip is pretty high up the backstrap...and when i hold the glock tight the web of my hand is basically right under the slide. Its a gen 3 if that makes any difference in understanding?

You must have hands like Richard Kiel. Way bigger than average.
The only gun I had problems with slide bite was a Walther PPK.
I can only imagine your issue with the 1911 is the oversize safety.
Is your thumb pointing towards the target, like it should, not up in the air?

If you are not holding the gun firm enough with the recoil flip up the slide could damage the web of your thumb.

In this photo you can see the spot on my knuckle where my 1911 hits...

Have you tried the GripForce adapter for your Glock?

Seeing your grip, I recommend that you move your thumb outward.

Briefly on a buddys gen 4 glock 19. I didnt really like it, but im pretty sure that would likely solve my problem

Fairly certain that is not my issue. I have a pretty strong grip.

Get a grip extension for the backstrap or find a Gen 4 that comes with 3 different extensions.

                      Or wear shooting gloves.

Wow- You should shoot a Desert Eagle or Hk USP full size.

The crummy thing is i tend to like smaller gripped pistols. I like the 1911 grip size and the glock 19. Have shot a glock 21 and I hated it.

My service model XD does NOT chew up my hand though.

You grip is right on the Glock tail that slopes down. That is pretty uncomfortable to start with. Grind that off or the grip adapter.

I have 3-4 mm clearance compared to you, but my support hand is above 3-4 mm above the frame line.

Maybe try lowering and loosening up the death grip, it may result in a slightly lower trigger pull.

Size 9 shoes don't fit everyone who wears a size 9 just like some guns don't fit some shooter's bodies. It does sound like you're riding too high on the Glock though.
