    Springfield XD opinions

so I'm looking for opinions on the XD's, and yes I missed out on the SSE for the XDS. another time, another post. My main purpose would be CCW and basically a beater. Most likely in 45

I also don't feel like paying a premium for an off roster PPT either...I have a couple other guns on my need to get list before the year ends. I'm open to any other "on roster" options.

A quick search shows a lot of XD 9mm for sale...reasons??

    Thanks

Any other gun, or any other XD?

    Glock 30 or 36 would be a good choice. G30 = 10 rounds; G36 = 6 rounds.

I do not know why there are a lot of XD9mm for sale. Maybe because they sold more in 9mm in the first place, so there are more in that caliber for sale.

They are great guns. Accurate, dead nuts reliable, tough, comfortable grip for most I'd say, some don't like grip safeties, which it has. The problem is, after all those good characteristics, that's all they are. They are fantastic firearms, but nothing special or different or unique. My guess is people are selling them who bought em around 5 or more years ago, but now realize they want something else, and need some funds for that new toy. That's what I did anyway. Even though they aren't that expensive, I regret selling mine. I'll pick another one up soon. It was probably the most trusted firearm I have owned (amongst sigs, s&w, CZs,and Rugers).

But you said main purpose would be ccw and a beater. If you can get two different guns. An xd9 can be found pretty cheap, and ca shields can be found cheap brand new. Best of luck you in your search.

I've got the XD9 Tactical. I absolutely love it. Super accurate and reliable after thousands and thousands of rounds.

They're great guns although I'm not a fan of the grip safety. I wouldn't mind if the grip safety only disabled the striker but it also prevents the slide from being racked. Because of this, my gf has a hard time locking the slide back since her hands are small.

The smallest XD on roster would be the sub-compact 3" (9 or 40 only). Close to a G26 size.

The smallest XD-45 caliber on roster would be 4" compact. Which would be close to the G19 and G30 size.

They sell and get re-sold. In production since 1999, so they have a good following. I like them personally, with some draw back with any gun. Rent at the range before you buy.
Look for the essential version for ~420, as the gear is not worth ~500.

Shame, there is the XD-Mod2-3.3" in 45 and the XDS in 45 for you CCW 45 crowd, but simply not on roster.

I've got the XD9 service and XD9 sub compact; both with Powder River triggers. Never a FTF or FTE. I'll be keeping these.

I have an XD 45 ACP and it is a great gun. Did the Springer Precision trigger job on it, and this has made the break much more betterer. It is crazy accurate.

It is EASY to tear down, has been reliable as can be now that the striker channel is super clean. ( I was killing it with kindness in the form of oil.)

It is too big for EDC, but it is an excellent choice for Home defense, general range use.

The XD is my favorite of the striker fired plastic guns. By far. The grip safety is a no factor for me at all, I own and carry a coupla 1911s so this may be why. Would love to have an XDs 3.3 but I waited too long. That little thing might be the ultimate CCW tool IMHO.

I've got 3 XD's. 3" 9mm, 4" 9mm, and the 5" Tac 45. Comfortable and accurate. No problems, no issues, eats all ammo reliably, and hella easy to field strip and clean.

The Xd is a great pistol, accurate, reliable, durable, and priced very reasonable. My only gripe with them which happens to be why I dont own any Xd's anymore is that the bore axis is to high for me. YMMV

Intel0116 when you say the bore axis was too high...was it affecting your accuracy that much?

XD's factory sights are typically setup as a 6 o'clock hold. Once I realized this, my accuracy tightened up significantly. The XD bore axis height doesn't seem high to me at all.

XD-45 service was the first handgun I ever bought and the only thing I could happen to get in my price range at Rifle Gear when I turned 21 in the post Sandy Hook/Election Scare era. I've gone back and forth with my feelings about it but always end up liking the feel and familiarity. My only real gripe is the position of the take down lever always interferes with my thumbs forward grip. I've beveled it so its a bit less obtrusive but still find it somewhat annoying. Occasionally I've also had it fail to lock back but I think this was partially my high grip. I have since stopped playing around with recoil springs and put the pistol gear slide release on there. PRP trigger makes it a breeze to shoot, I put a Dawson fiber optic front sight, PRP mag release, a home done stippling job, and TLR-1HL. Love it way better than the Glock 23 I have to carry for work. Not the prettiest gun I own but it gets the job done and is my go to for general range and "tactical" use.

I really like the fact that I can get my eyes on sights pretty fast. Easy to disassemble, and grip safety needs to be held down in order for the slide to activate. The grip feels a little better than a Glock to me. Still debating on trading it for a Glock. I have the 40 and have yet to try the 9mm barrel replacement.
