    S&W 14-4

Looks like a 6" pinned barrel K-38 Target Masterpiece.
    14-4 dates are 1977 - 1982.
This comes from the big book of S&W
    Hope this helps.

Very nice. Don't shoot anything but standard .38 Spl. in it, NO +P's. Enjoy.

I have his exact gun. Very fun to shoot at range. Among my favorite handguns and I own about 200 of them. My particular example prefers 130 grain FMJ ammo. It can handle +P ammo.

For the sake of clarity, the earlier named K-38 Target Masterpiece predates the numbered Model 14.

OP, enjoy the hell out that revolver, without +P bullcrap. These revolvers are so sweet shooting cast or swaged wadcutters. These revolvers are a hand loader's dream, with mild bullseye loads.

After a box or two of light .38 Specials, you have likely felt the best trigger in your life to date, and can quietly chuckle inside, when striker pistol equipped shooters brag about how their spongy/trashy triggers are so awesome.

It is about respecting the purpose of the firearm, as one would not take an expensive .22 target rifle, and shoot CCI Stinger ammo through it, or abuse a fine shotgun with deer slugs for ammo.

Most years I kill a deer with a slug from a Beretta Silver Pigeon in 20.

And, not that it's a target rifle per se, but a I have damn accurate Remington 121 slide that shoots anything, and shoots it better than I can aim...No issues with Stingers.

How am I abusing the weapons??

As to respect, I save that for people...I don't think my guns know what I shoot through them...at least they haven't complained so far.

As long as the ammo is within SAAMI specs, I just do not see an issue. As to +P's, they're loaded 10% more than a non- +P round...and it's interesting to note that in 1970, SAAMI did an across the board change and lowered pressures 10% anyway.

                  It's a K-frame, and like any other K-frame, +P 38's will not hurt it.

                  Care to explain the FUD??

I have had a coupl of them. My current K38, made in 1950, really likes 148gr HBWC over 2.7gr of Bullseye. These revolvers were designed as bullseye guns and they shoot the 148 wadcutters the best.

Every .38 shoots the wadcutters best.

Mine doesn't. That is a rather broad statement.

Yes, indeed. It is about punching the cleanest possible holes to be scored, at twenty five yards for bullseye competition.

K38's are so sweet. They have light and velvety trigger breaks.

With their wide target trigger/target hammer/target sights, the K38 Target Masterpiece series of revolvers are so sweet!

Striker pistols are a lower order of machine.
