.177 cal pellets sure have evolved...

I have owned a Crossman "American Classic" .177 cal pellet/bb gun for over 25 yrs. I dont shoot it much, once in awhile give a pump or two "get off my lawn" BB shot to the ferrel cats that own the neghborhood.

My reloading buddy and I recently bought a chrongragh for dialing in our reloads. I thought it would be a good idea to set up chrony in my backyard and use my pellet gun to get familiar with the chrony.

I went to the local Big 5 and was suprised how pellets have changed. They got the regular ones that I remembered, but now they got these ones that are shaped like a cone and are pointed at the tip. They also have these "coated" hollow point pellets. I got 500 hollow point pellets.

I know this is not news to the BB/Pellet Airgun fans but it sure is news to me...

I just got some of these in .177 and 22

Fun for the whole family, this air gun is appropriate for shooters of all skill levels. Get your Crosman 1322 air pistol from Pyramydair.com today!

Since I have so many pellets left over from my .177 rifle that got stolen I thought well I might as well use them.

I like to use PBA ballistic polymer tipped .177 ammo in my Gamos when I'm stopping anything housecat size or bigger (those pesky oppossums!). In a pinch, the 'aggressive' pointed tipped full lead pellets sold by Crosman and Beeman work, but you might need multiple shots to ensure a kill on a varmint. On rabbits, hares, and mice/rats, usually one shot will suffice and they will die on the spot or bleed out and die soon after being hit. This is assuming you are shooting them at not-so-insane range.
All of my varmint hunting/pest control kills are at close range, about 30 to 50 ft max. The closer you are, the more velocity is retained into the shot and the less it is influenced by windage and gravity to throw your shot off. I don't even need my scope anymore, since my Gamos also come with awesome high visibility 'iron' sights.

To each his own, good luck and have fun with your air guns!

My Gamo Big Cat likes 10.34 grain heavies, 2nd is the Beeman coated HP. I tried the Gamo pellets but they just are not very accurate in my springer.
