Ben nitro piston 2, what else?

After reading Toms 5 articles on PA, I was impressed with the NP trail 2. Ready to buy one, then I looked at some stats. 46 inches long? Holy Cow! My Tikka .308 isn't even 43. Not really sure I want a giant pellet gun, what gives. Anything else that's highly recommended that's not as big? I want a pellet gun for FUN, for backyard plinking & occasional outdoor field type use. I don't want to be easily discovered in a backyard with ANY gun. Not sure I want such a long gun.

    Ideas?
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

You can buy a pistol.. Break barrels are long. Consider a fixed barrel. If its just for targets you don't need a lot of power so you can get a side lever that's shorter. Baikal, etc

Appreciate the responses, thanks. I want a rifle & I want to hunt occasionally so it's likely .22 pellets. I realize the baffles are necessary, not too sure I want a nearly 4 ft gun. I have time to think about it. I don't mind spending around 300$ Maybe a pump? It's gotta be accurate & solid.

Benjamin 392 is nice and short (same size as a M1 carbine). Shoots well too, especially with a Williams peep sight installed.

It can be quiet if you only pump 2-3 times. Or loud if you pump to 8 times.

I had one of these when i was a kid it was extremely accurate many rabbits and ground squirrels fell to its wrath If crossmen has not mucked it up it might be a good bet?
The nitro power XL 22 has good power just disappointing on the accuracy one problem I see with the NP is the scope mounts to the receiver and not the barrel
