Long story short, I'm interested in learning about Airsoft rifles & Pistols. I'm looking for durable and rugged like their real counter parts if possible. So if someone has (or can point out where to get) information on who makes quality products, as well as the pros and cons of the different manufactures, I'd greatly appreciate it.

decide on how much you want to spend, and if you'd like to do gas or electric or spring. spring are the cheapest but need to be recocked after every shot. gas is usually the most realistic but also the most expensive and bulky if you want consistency. electric looks good and performs well, but they aren't as realistic in design due to being battery operated. once we know what you want to get out of your gun we can go from there. is this for fun, for training, for gaming against others or what? -
The primary purpose would be training. Give the safety issues of real firearms and the social stigma (as well as the inability) of doing tactical training at a range without raising questions or eyebrows, Airsoft seems to be a more realistic possibility/option. Likewise it would be an opportunity for friends to get together and have a little fun at the same time.Comment

If you are looking for training, I would suggest a gas blow back style. This style of gun offers similar weight and feel to its real life counter part. Systema Engineering specifically made firearms for training. Another option is Simunition. this is a drop in replacement for your weapon. They essentially shoot paintballs out of your weapon.Comment

Check these out, both by KWA, a good manufacturer.Long story short, I'm interested in learning about Airsoft rifles & Pistols. The KWA Adaptive Training Pistol (ATP) is a unique firearm in the Airsoft market. This polymer framed, striker fired style pistol follows similar ergonomics as well as the feel of other familiar popular handguns. Internally, the ATP is designed around the same NS2 internals of other popular KWA GBB ...
those are both gas blowback, so they load and function just like real firearms. Only caveat is you need to buy "green gas" and refill the mags with that in addition to bb's. Best option I see for weapons manipulation training.
If you want to spend less than that, $300 is a good starting point for most of the rifles, if you're going with a pistol just stick with KWA, the other manufacturers, KJW, WE, kind of suck. Marui is overly expensive for what you get.Originally posted by RookieShooterOne of the theory is that the hormones they put in the milk. in that case your weapon choice will dictate what companies to go to. gas would probably be best. AK/AR/whatever rifle and what model pistol and we can go from there.Comment

The Simlatin option you mentioned sounds interesting. By chance would you have a recomendation on a distributer or manufacture? If you are looking for training, I would suggest a gas blow back style. If the simulation option that I asked about above is not a Viable / Legal option, then I will deffinately look into the Gas Blow Back option.Comment

The channel - Airsoft GI -
--Has a ton of videos and reviews... they also are one of the larger online shops...
Watch videos and they will go over the good and the bad... Your first AEG is expensive...
Gun
Case
Charger
Protection gear
Battery
Typically can run $400-$500
Getting the right gear the first time is frustrating as there are so many choices...
But as always, define how you will use the airsoft and once you decide on the purpose of use, it is easier to make a good selectionRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Hello,
Differences:
AEG (Automatic Electric Gun)- in other words electric powered guns,
-most common in airsoft industry, (upgradeable parts, internally and externally) Majority of companies are based off of TM (Tokyo Marui) Gearbox Designs.
Last longer in gameplay (depending on Battery Size) compared to: Gas powered guns.
AEG guns are less expensive (less expensive doesnt always mean cheaper quality)
Gas Powered:
whether pistol or rifle or smg, Gas powered rifles offer the most realism, including round count in mag.
Typically all gas powered guns hold less than an electric gun.
Gas powered guns can use Green Gas (about 8-12$ per can) which gets you about 15 mag fills in a 30 round magazine .
An alternative route is buying Propane cans (Coleman disposeable Green cans at walmart (about 2-3$ per can) and lasts you easily over 30 mag fills in a 30 rds magazine...only difference in Green gas and propane:
-Green Gas
-more expensive due to silicon combined into gas in can already and lubricates your guns internal O-rings and magazines o-rings during shooting mode.
-Propane:
-Less expensive (but you need to buy silicone seperately)
and buy a propane adapter (airsoft edition) and has a small port that is for silicone.
once silicon is poured into adapter, attach adapter onto propane and start charging mags...
i use this option instead of buying 10$ green gas bottles which last less than 20 mag fills.
Many say that using propane and silicon mix will wear your guns internals quicker (o-rings) but if lubed correctly, you should be okay...
Besides, O-rings arent expensive...
if you have any questions, let me know,
been airsofting for several years...Good AdrenalineComment

forgot to mention spring powered guns:
-least expensive alternative
-never have to worry about batteries dying or gas running, just make sure you can cock it as fast as possible...
Decent Ca stores as mentioned before:
Evike.com
Airsoft GI.com
oversea stores to find rarer or guns not sold here in us:
ehobbyasia.com
wgcshop.com
just bought a gas powered G19 from ehobby asia with OD frame for 135$ shipped.
As for practicing,up to a certain it can be useful for real world cases.
Either reloading, quick holstering, mental game can be useful compared to other things.Comment

I recently purchased a Tokyo Marui 1911 hi capa pistol. It is a blow back gun using green gas, and I got it simply because I wanted to practice with some friends and use it for force on force training. It sort of fits my STI holsters, and has a small amount of felt recoil, but not anything close to a real firearm. I looked at some of the brands that others have mentioned, but if I carry, it is usually an STI VIP and I shoot a full size STI in classes and such, so I wanted to keep the airsoft as close to what I'd be using. I would recommend visiting a few local airsoft places first, bring a holster if you plan to use it, as many manufacturers have variations in measurements compared to the real counterparts.
JerryThe inconvenience of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a good bargain.Comment
