    Hmmm

Ok, I am not trying to bash, troll, mock or belittle the hobby, but if you can afford real guns, why AirSoft?

LOL. Some airsoft guns cost more than firearms. They are two different things. If you can afford a luxury car, why would you buy a motorcycle?

Well, let me see... If your similie is car=real gun and motorcycle= airsoft, I wouldn't buy a motorcycle. I think maybe your comparison is confusing me. Motorcycles are more fun, but that can't be the case with a real gun. Still not following you...clarification?

Ok, that might be fun. What is used for ammo, and at what velocities? Also, max range? Are they similar enough to real arms to train with minus the lethality?

Again, they are two completely different things used for different purposes.

So instead of just looking up commonly available information on google, you continue with the troll thread?

I have an airsoft, but dont know why.

Now airguns are different, YOu can hunt with them and adjust the power for mice, rats, to rabbits. 6-35 fps.

airsoft, for me is just for fun shooting at your friends.

                  Because I can:
                  Shoot full-auto in the house
Demonstrate to others how to field strip a 1911, AR, etc with surprising accuracy without having to take their gun apart
Try out different optics combinations without scratching up my real guns
Share my interest in guns to visiting friends without having real guns being passed around the living room.

I'm not trolling...I'm discussing it with enthusiasts, instead of boring myself with google. jerk.

Oh wait. I thought I just read calling people jerks or raining on their parades wasn't cool.
                      Huh?

Same reason you buy a 9MM, less recoil and save money on ammo.

airsoft is totally different than real firearms.

Some of the airsoft guns produced today are very realistic and are good for "training" so, weapons manipulation. They're an alternative to dry fire practice for people with enough cash.

You can also do Force on force training with airsoft, which is a lot cheaper and safer than SIM-unitions and is more realistic than paintball. There are actually some law enforcement agencies, even in CA that use airsoft for training.

Some people enjoy playing airsoft similarly to the way paintball is played (I personally don't, but w/e).

I have a hard time imagining a projectile heavy enough to be relatively unaffected by wind, and to traverse sufficient distance to simulate real world applications effectively, without being potentially dangerous. How do these work? Is the training all close range?

Depends on your definition of real world applications.

For building clearing airsoft works fine and it's basically instantaneous in its travel time. At distances farther than that, yeah the bbs slow down a little bit, they take a little longer to get there. I'd say 25 yards is optimum distance for airsoft with a max distance of 50 yards or so. Beyond 50 yards is the self defense encounter realistic?
