I have a RWS Magnum 48, that I bought many years ago. It is heavy, it is tough on scopes (reverse recoil), it is almost as loud as shooting .22 shorts. I have never really shot it well, but that is probably just me, not the rifle.

I have a 52 in .22 that I bought in the late 1980's. It is heavy and requires a scope that is braced in both directions because of strong 2-way recoil. The side cocking lever is a little bit less ergonomic then my break barrel Beeman R1, but it is easy to operate and allows for a fixed barrel.

I enjoy shooting it, but I prefer my 80's vintage R1 because the trigger on the R1 is superior. They are both adjustable, but the RWS trigger is noticeably less crisp then the Beeman.

The RWS 52 is a very solid airgun, and mine has at least 5,000 rounds thru it.

I've only chronographed it once at MAC1, and it pushed a Beeman Kodiak pellet to about 625fps. I tend to shoot semi dome pellets cuz they shoot a bit flatter.

Normal maintenance involves a touch of grease on the moving parts, infrequent oiling of the compression chamber via oiling needle, and barrel cleaning on a regular basis. And a dab of red grease on the mainspring now and then.

My 52 has been 100% reliable for all these years.

I had MAC1 install an upgraded spring kit not long after I bought it. So I can't speak to the longevity of the original mainspring. The spring kit is from a company called Venom IIRC.

I've shot one and I think they are great. I have a RWS 350 Magnum myself. Which is another great rifle.

And yes those vintage RWS are bette than the new ones.
