There are a lot of decent entry level PCP guns that will provide not only lot's of cheap and fun shooting but also provide a solid foot into the doors of PCP rifles.
Serious arigunner's will crap all over any entry level rifle but don't let that mislead you.
I started off with a .22 Marauder and a hand pump. I still have it and use the hell out of it weekly and it's bone stock and reliable. There are so many airgun's out there that I want to replace my Marauder with but every time I hold off because what I use my air rifle for is working for me.
You already know that getting started in PCP's is expensive AF, so I suggest that you take it easy and buy what you can afford. Test the waters a little bit, then spend the coin for better air rifles, compressor's etc if you decide that you really want to keep going with the PCP's.Comment

I'd get a bottle but my nearest filling station is an hour awayLast edited by LazyJ; 04-18-2022, 8:23 AM.Comment

I have the .22 air venturi avenger PCP in original black plastic stock, and my nephew has the one with wood stock. After shooting both, I prefer mine because it is lighter to shoulder and handle. The avenger can be tweaked easily (videos on Youtube), and I typically get about 75 shots good to 50 yards before it needs refilling.
I bought a 4-stage hand pump from ebay for $60 and have used it with the avenger for more than 2 years now. Takes about 100 strokes to get from 1,200 psi to 3,300 psi. Not gonna lie, I am huffing and puffing near the end. Good exercise, though.
My son 3d printed a suppressor for me, and that significantly quieted the noise.Comment

I was seriously impressed by a friend's Benjamin Marauder .22 in accuracy at 50 yards. At 75 yards, it was kind of funny to watch the pellets drop down onto the target, kind of like the trajectory of an artillery shell. But at 50 yards, very accurate. My own RAW .30 rifle would do that at 75 yards but then the Benji cost less than 1/4th of the RAW. Definitely a bargain.
As you increase the caliber, so do you increase your air consumption. Go with a 97 cu. in. carbon fiber bottle and you'll be good for months. Then just get the bottle topped off by a place with a compressor. Or make friends with your local rural fire department that has a compressor for their breathing equipment.
I appreciate that you want to avoid the frustration of an inaccurate PCP rifle. Just be wary about going too lean on the budget. I'd put an entry PCP rifle at the $350 - 600 price range. Going less and I'd worry about triggers, barrels, fit & finish, etc. Read the reviews and how many reviewers. Also look at the dates of the reviews. Pay attention to the brand of ammunition used as, like with firearms, PCP rifles can be sensitive to the ammunition used.NRA Certified Instructor: Basic Pistol ShootingComment
