Opinions on Olympic style air pistols?

Are these types of Olympic style air pistols enjoyable to shoot and own?

I am intrigued by the electronic triggers, etc.

If anyone has experience with these please share your thoughts.

Do I need to buy my own compressor to use these regularly?

i used to shoot a Feinwerbau model 80. Very nice pistol for olympic style 10 meter shooting.

I am not familiar with the newer electronic triggers. i don't think you can go wrong with Feinwerbau.

i know the guys who shot with compressed air had their own tanks and regulators to monitor their pressures

I got heavy into air guns about 4 years ago. Along the way I picked up a Steyr semi-auto pistol made for Olympic level competition. I fabricated a pic rail for it and replaced the rear sight with a red dot. I think I had almost 2k into it. An absolute pleasure to shoot. I bought 1, 2 & 3” steel silhouette targets to plink in my back yard. From 10 yards it was a challenge to knock ‘em all down. The fam had a blast competing with it

I'd rather put that kinda money into centerfire options.

I have a bunch of vintage Feinwerkbau, Walther, Morini, Diana 10M Pistols and rifles. GREAT fun and you can do it in your house. PCP stuff gets a bit more expensive but one plus is there is almost nothing to go wrong other than O rings. The early guns are very mechanical, that's why I like them, they're like watches inside and very satisfying to shoot.

Look into Steyr LP50 - it is rapid fire 5 round semiauto air pistol. Also they sell HP version capable to be accurate to 25 yards outdoors

In answer to your questions:

1. In addition to your list you might also consider Pardini. As I understand it, they make a good 10 meter air pistol, or at least that's what I've read. I had a Pardini free pistol one time and it was of very high quality.

2. 10 meter air pistols are little mechanical jewels. Yes, they are a joy to own and shoot. They're really the best of the best.

3. You won't need a compressor as the air reservoirs used by these pistols are relatively small. Get a good carbon fiber tank that you can have filled to 4500 psi and you'll get a lot of fills before you need to head back to the dive shop.

Regarding electronic triggers; I think it's kind of a personal preference thing. I don't care for them only because it seems that electronics in this type of thing seem to become obsolete (FWB 90 comes to mind), and I oftentimes worry about batteries spilling corrosive contents over sensitive electronics. Again, this is purely my opinion and others may see things differently.

The beauty of airguns is, of course, that you can shoot them darned near anywhere. Especially 10 meter guns. One thing to note, however, is that there does not appear to be any venues available for 10 meter air pistol matches in SoCal. There used to be matches at Prado, but I believe that has long been discontinued.

There are So Cal Matches at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim (at least Pre-Covid) and a VERY nice facility.

The Bridge Junior Shooting Club in La Puente is were to go for 10 meter Air Pistol. That facility is an official USA Shooting venue and I would go there to train for 10 meter air rifle as I was a rifle shooter
