I wouldn't recommend this. In the airsoft world, some of the M4 models were so close to real steel that you could slap on a real upper and have a full-auto AR.

Theoretically it can be done (and I'm pretty sure it has), but if you're asking *if* it can be done, then *you* probably couldn't do it. There are several high-quality, mag-fed paintball ARs. If you're going for realism I'd look at the 486 PTR (it's intended to be a training supplement).

Why would you want to waste a perfectly good lower on a paintball gun? Unless it's one of those "because I can" things

I recall that with airsoft many critical dimensions are "close but no cigar" as to prevent use of actual AR receivers with airsoft uppers. I wouldn't be surprised if the paintball industry took this approach as well.

Anyway, with an 80% any cuts, even dimensionally incorrect ones, to the trigger section makes it a firearm so don't even attempt it.

Is this hyperbole or a real statement? Cuz it is kind of alarming, even to pro 2a me, if that is the case. And it makes me reconsider my scoffing at that incident (can't remember the details) where LEO confiscated a bunch of airsoft guns because they were readily convertible to real firearms.

I don't know anything about airsoft but is there some reason that an airsoft lower and a colt industries lower would have to be so functionally and structurally similar?

BATFE issued a notice a certain types of airsoft and US Customs seized those brands during the importation process.

BATFE issuance was due to Japanese National Police cases involving those airsoft being converted into functional firearms by yakuza members.
