Found a cool little "toy" in my travels recently, a Walther PPQ M2 Gas Blowback airsoft gun made by Umerex. Considering the brand, I shouldn't be surprised at how close it is to the real thing, but I am.
My real PPQ is the M2 .45ACP model, which is the largest and heaviest of the "short barrel" (less than 5-in) PPQs but even so, this airsoft 'replica' is darned close in overall size and weight. I suspect it's a dead ringer for the 9mm with the 4-in barrel. It has a real metal slide and poly frame, just like the real thing. Empty, it weighs about 2 ounces less than the 9mm version (both with empty mags inserted).
I originally bought it to introduce my kids to shooting and safe gun handling when we go out to our rural property in the mountains. They are way too young to handle the .45, and the only smaller gun I have is a PPS M2 9mm, which is still a bit much for them. I considered buying a rimfire model until I saw this airsoft for less than a C-note. It should be a lot of fun for them and a lot less expensive to use in gas and 6mm BBs than burning through ammo.
It's so close in overall size and ergonomics to the real deal though that I figure I can also use it to practice grip, draw, and stance with it while enjoying the fun of actually discharging it without making a trip to the range. I haven't actually fired it yet, but will soon. In the mean time, here's some pix of it compared to my .45 along with a link to the manufacturer's site.
