This is an easy choice if you already have a .22lr rifle, but an air rifle is more powerful in a lot of cases.
a cbee shoots a 33 grain round at about 740 fps.
A .25 cal air gun can send 28-30 grainers at 900-1000 and you can legally put a "sound moderator" on it. So quieter and more energy.Kunar Prov, A'stan '08-'09, 1-26 INFComment

Lead is legal to use with air rifles.
In short, fish and game code specifies lead free for any projectile fired from a firearm. CA penal code defines firearms as things that shoot stuff due to combustion, as such air rifles aren't firearms. The DFG corroborates this by specifically stating in their FAQ that air rifles aren't firearms and therefore don't need to use lead free ammo.Calguns.net, where everyone responding to your post is a Navy Force Delta Recon 6 Sniperator.Comment

Shoot me a PM if you need help thinning out those rabbit.Originally posted by IshootforbloodIf it's really a prolem, I'd suggest contacting the Fish & Game. They might help you. As far as powerful & quiet air guns go, the Diana 350 Magnum is considered a powerful airgun, and it's pretty quiet. Sounds like a staple gun. The 350 in .22 puts out 20+/- FPE, depending on tune. In other words, a fraction of a stanard .22LR. It might work with a perfect shot on a sleeping fox at close range. But, it's not really enough gun. I've had much smaller critters run off after being shot with a 350. Not every time, but often enough that I wouldn't use it for anything bigger than a rabbit.
All that said, I think it would be cool to have foxes on my property, maybe thinning out the rabbits a bit. As it is, I have yotes and a moody Bobcat. I live with them, and I think it's cool. I would not kill a fox to protect a barn cat. The cats will wise up.

the Benjamin Marauder in 22 or 25 will suffice if the shot is taken within 30-40 yards and it's shrouded barrel makes it 'backyard friendly'. *NOTE: there is, normally, a need to properly tune a PCP, even when shrouded, for minimal noise. an UNSHROUDED PCP is as loud as a firearm when discharged; especially the larger bore ones.
foxes (not protected by law) are not armor plated and are not difficult to dispatch with proper shot placement and proper bullet/pellet/arrow.NRA life member, US Army Veteran
i am a legend in my own mind...
we are told not to judge muslims by what a few do...yet, the NRA membership and firearms owners are ALL considered as radical...
