is it really the same gun?

I was told my Crossman 760 ain' the same as the one we got in 1974 that took 30yrs of abuse from every kid in the county.

Like when Nike shoes would debut at $100 for a shoe that was worth it, then would go on sale later for $30 and was a $25 shoe.

Maybe these are returns? Tried to find a virgin cordless screw gun that wasn't obviously a well "broken in" return at FOUR DIFFERENT Home Depots and started to remember those ethnic jokes about "Why wasn't Jesus born *****ville? Couldn't find 2 wise men and a virgin".

Thanks for the heads up.Just ordered one.Got bit by the airgun bug a couple weeks ago and have been researching the different kinds and models.This will be great until I can afford that air arms tx200.

ya got me, just ordered.

my advisers counciled that small outfit with a small group of dedicated costumers would be unlikely to put out special crappy versions of its products.

plus, now I'll have something for those 22 pellets I bought by mistake.

also, will be nice to have a 22 pellet since 22lr still a prob, AND I can still shoot pellets on buddy's rural ranchette.

maybe this thread could turn into a User Group for this particular gun.

I guess I forgot to include the factory $12/oz oil in the order.

You don't need the factory oil. Moly tar on the spring is the way to go. You can disassemble and reassemble without the spring compressor (I know from experience) but it can be kind of dangerous. Never put oil in the compression chamber, it will diesel, and cause the gun to shoot erratically. Use regular gun oil for cleaning the outside of the gun and the bore.


Any of you guys anywhere near stockton? We could meet up when our rifles come in next week and go shooting. I have a really nice target stand I could bring along, with 2 steel gongs and a place for paper targets.

DO NOT put anything, oil, etc. inside the air chamber or the cocking slot (where the spring is) of any Spring Powered Air rifle. Umarex has a you-tube video where the Umarex knuckle Head Gun-Smiths are dripping chamber lube into the air port hole. DON'T DO IT. These Umarex clowns are company employees and "importers" of the Diana rifles. They are clowns, and have no idea what they are doing. I suspect that they want you to damage your gun, so that they can charge you for the repairs. Don't take my word for it. Google is your friend.

I think most people know that you should never dry-fire a spring gun, and I also believe most guys know they should not clean Air rifles with "gun cleaning" products. Solvents and gun oils will damage the rubber breech seal, and the piston seal. Also, oil inside the compression chamber WILL detonate, causing the piston seal to tear, the spring to break, and sometimes the compression tube to deform. Again, Umarex is EVIL.

I use a soft cloth, and a little bit of Rem oil to wipe down the outside of my air rifles. I keep the cloth in a zip lock bag inside my safe. This keeps dust off the cloth, etc. There are special cleaning pellets made of cloth, and they are designed to be pushed down the barrel in pairs. Some guys use a bit of "Goo Gone" on the pellets to remove the factory oil. I've done this too, but be careful, use a little bit, and keep it off the breech seal. I (carefully) push the cleaning pellets through the bore with a cleaning rod. I know some guys shoot the cleaning pellets through, but I disagree with this practice. Guys also use a piece of fishing line to pull patches through the bore. I do this as well when ever I go OCD on my bore cleaning.

Keep in mind that there isn't any burnt gun powder to remove from the bore of a pellet gun, and the lead pellets don't go fast enough to lead up the rifling. You really don't need to clean the bore except to get the factory oil out when the rifle is brand new, or after a lube tune. After a lube tune, the molly lube get pushed through the air port hole, and into the bore. After a lube tune, I always shoot about a dozen heavy pellets through the rifle. I do this to lessen the chance of detonation, and it also shoots some of the molly out. Heavy pellets to me are the Kodiak 21.14 grain. I know you can get heavier .22 pellets, but the Kodiaks are just what I happen to have in my stash. After the heavy pellets, I clean the molly from the bore with cleaning pellets and Goo Gone, fishing line and patches, and then I shoot a few more Kodiaks. OCD (I know) but accuracy matters to me. Ad says "impact resistant stock" but seems to show wood. Maybe its wood grain plastic? Rather have wood but no biggee if plastic.

I get the feeling I'll be wishing I'd bought two, one for iron sights and one for scope.
