    Grant County

Anyone ever hear of the sheriff coming back down to SoCal to do this again?

    Give ‘em a call.

I’m up for renewal later this year but might go out to Boise anyways to visit.

That was a program of Sheriff Palmer, however he is no longer Grant County Sheriff, but I would still call and ask. Highly doubtful this will happen again.

Sheriff Palmer came down once to the Cow Palace (Nov 2010). After that, one of his deputies (Sal) had relatives in So. Cal and would drive family down each year. He took time out of his vacation to set up meetings to accept applications in Southern and Northern CA.

June of 2013 was his last run and he processed 12 of us at midnight in NorCal (a flat tire slowed his transit).

Rumor mill: A Californian who got a license at the cow palace and couldn?t get renewed at the Cow Palace sued the Sheriff. The Sheriff won and shut down his out of state California program.

He had a deputy here back in 2019 but based on post #3, I doubt it will happen again as he’s no longer sheriff.

Sal's kids got older (so did he) and the 2-day drive was no longer fun. The kids were old enough to fly with, so he apologized to us in the North and began flying into SoCal.

While the new sheriff my not allow his employees to travel to issue permits, he is still pro 2A and accepts self defense as a compelling reason. Took me less than 24 hours from the time I called for an appointment to change the address on my OR CHL, that had been issued by the Klamath County Sheriff, until I walked out with a renewed permit in hand and that included taking my prints and a photograph. What is even more amazing is the fact that my permit is a plastic card with my picture on it.

Can confirm. New sheriff is Todd McKinley. I was planing on driving through Oregon last summer, so I made an appointment with the sheriff's office to get a new license. It took very little time. They printed me a new card right there. Nice folks.
