So in reading this, if AZ does not require any permit, why pay for one if traveling to AZ? (if you are licensed in Calif.) What is the benefit? I would assume Racinjason233 would be driving to LA, so any/every state in between would need to be addressed?

Because it's cheap and super easy to get, and it gives you reciprocity in a bunch of other states.
