    Arizona CCW Permit

Just curious if everyone thinks it is worth it to get the Arizona CCW permit. I have my CA CCW permit, and am considering getting one from Arizona, or is Utah better? Or neither, thoughts?

An AZ non resident permit is straightforward and inexpensive to obtain, particularly if you already have a CA CCW permit. It adds 38 or 39 states (some of which already recognize a CA permit or are also Constitutional carry), and is good for 5 years. Big advantage for Californians is that it adds Nevada.

Lots and lots of threads on this already, including discussions about Utah permits as well.

Utah gets you Nevada, it won't get you New Mexico. Arizona gets NM but lacks Washington which UT covers.

I vacation in Hawaii, so which permit do I need?

Just kidding. I know there are no CCW's that cover Hawaii.

I've been to Arizona only one time since I got my permit. I carried while there.

What is peace of mind worth to you OP? I thought the AZ permit was cheap enough....and it's good for 5 years.

I just took the Calif. class with Ben Hansen Firearms Training in Santa Ana....the Arizona CCW is just an add-on feature that takes an extra hour and about $30 or so. You take your fingerprints right there for the AZ. license and they give you all the documents to send in (and I also did the Live Scan prints for CA....extra $)

hmm... I thought the big deal was that there was no specific "AZ CCW training" required by AZ DPS, and that anybody offering such was scamming? Perhaps not in the sense that they weren't giving any valuable training, just that there was no such training required by AZ.

                              N. An applicant shall demonstrate competence with a firearm through any of the following:

                              1. Completion of any firearms safety or training course or class that is available to the general public, that is offered by a law enforcement agency, a junior college, a college or a private or public institution, academy, organization or firearms training school and that is approved by the department of public safety or that uses instructors who are certified by the national rifle association.
                              2. Completion of any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Arizona game and fish department or a similar agency of another state.
                              3. Completion of any national rifle association firearms safety or training course.
                              4. Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class that is offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies or other divisions or subdivisions of law enforcement or security enforcement and that is approved by the department of public safety.
                              5. Evidence of current military service or proof of honorable discharge or general discharge under honorable conditions from the United States armed forces.
                              6. A valid current or expired concealed weapon, firearm or handgun permit or license that is issued by another state or a political subdivision of another state and that has a training or testing requirement for initial issuance.
                              7. Completion of any governmental police agency firearms training course and qualification to carry a firearm in the course of normal police duties.
                              8. Completion of any other firearms safety or training course or class that is conducted by a department of public safety approved or national rifle association certified firearms instructor.

Note for 1, the training course, the school can be approved by DPS, but such an approval is not a requirement, since any course taught by an NRA instructor will also suffice.

In the case of the add-on to the Ben Hansen class, the fee would be worth it just for the fingerprint cards.
I meant, it is my opinion that...
