Need To Mount Holster In A Sling Bag

For those of you that carry in a sling bag, backpack, etc., how have you mounted your holster in the bag?

Note that I'm well aware of the soft holsters that are available and the bag even came with one...albeit it's a little tight. However, I'm just not comfortable carrying in a soft holster and would like to mount a kydex holster instead. So I'm interested in seeing what you guys have done.

Pictures and/or description of what you did and the gear you used would be muy bueno. I realize you can simply glue velcro onto the back of a holster...which may be the simplest way to go, and I may end up doing that. But I'm wondering what other solutions you may have come up with because some of you are pretty creative.

For example, I'm contemplating maybe using a G Code RTI wheel in the process as I think I have enough room.

My bag is the Viktos Upscale 3 bag (pictures below). The gun is a 4.25" M&P Core with a Trijicon 06 Red Dot.

    Please and Thank You!

I have a small LAPG Fanny pack and a 945 Industries QAPL Large (it barely fits a G19 with RDS and TLR-1). Both comes with Velcro loops backing in the main compartment.

The 945 Industries comes with a holster of your choosing. This holster comes with a Velcro hook panel that is secured via screws directly to the holster. For my LAPG Fanny pack I have a spare G26 holster that I had removed all mounting hardware and literally used self-adhesive backing Velcro hooks strips on the backside to mount onto the Velcro loops panel in the bag.

The nice thing about the 945 industries bag is that they are quick access with a pull of a tab vs. other bags, you would have to unzip. You can order a holster from 945 Industries with the nice Velcro hooks attached on its own. You can also find sheets of Velcro hooks from crossbreed holster.

Have you ordered a Bedside Backup, Ohai or Last Ditch holster? Or maybe you use our popular Velcro Clips with your IWB Holster and need extra Velcro?

I too was researching Kydex for a bag (mostly because many of the nylon holsters intended for the application don't cover the trigger) but ended up with a Tight Chutes M.A.R.S.

I like it, more or less universal fit and compatible with lights.

Similar discussion recently came up in the Northwest forum. Here is the link to my response:

          Also check out post #11.

In summary, 1) Kydex holster affixed to a Blade-Tech TMMS insert, 2) TMMS receiver attached to a piece of Kydex with Velcro backing. this allows for a fixed position mounting that is protected yet removable. (Note: if there is enough room, the TMMS could be switched out for the Blade-Teck 360 attachment receiver and insert.)

So the Blade-Tech TMMS option can also be achieve using the Safariland QLS system. Although, the QLS will make it bulkier as the QLS fork seems to be much beefier the the TMMS fork.

The options in post #11 are definitely great.

Hahahahahahaha! Life is a circle my friend. There's a pretty good reason these discussions are similar. Look at that name of the poster on NWF. And thanks for both responses! ?

Although it's a fanny pack, this is how I did mine. It is a Maxpedition UPW. One con of this is if you do the wrap really tight, it may interfere if you have suppressor height sights.

holsterbuilder.com has shells that you can maybe look into, but idk if they have lightbearing shells. They also have a few other options like their A.M.P. (accessory mounting plates)

I have a sling bag from Red Rock. It has a flap pocket on the back that is intended for carry. A kydex modular holster was available for my Ruger Max 9 from Crossbreed. It has a hook and loop surface on the back that mates to a hook and loop panel that came with the Red Rock. (I ordered a left handed holster to make the draw stroke a natural motion.)

I've been using the Crossbreed Modular holsters for my G19 and P365 (both the XL and X-Macro). I've picked up a few of each to use in different bags or slings that I have, and they work great. Pretty cheap too at around $40. The velcro is solid and the kydex keeps it snuggly in there and snaps (clicks) the gun into the holster every time for positive feedback.

The only downsides I would say about this holster is that they don't offer any options with a WML, except the super old TLR-6 that nobody uses, and the kydex may be a little loose fitting when you first get it. On all of my CB Modular holsters, I would use a heatgun and warm up the trigger guard area and lightly press into the kydex in and around the trigger guard to help "lock" in the gun better for more retention. Otherwise, not really downsides but just a couple of quirks.

I've seen some other brands like Eclipse and another that have hook & loop kydex holsters that also use WMLs but those were around $100+ for the holster.

My edc bag that I wear to work every day in a corporate setting, but I use the same holster in a couple of sling bags I have. Nothing special below other than being a Tumi Alpha bag with a strip of industrial strength loop tape. Hasn't come apart yet in over 2 years.
