Shoulder Holster

Can anyone give me a personal recommendation for a CCW "shoulder" holster? I mean the type where it lives under the armpit, vs. the type that is strapped across the chest. Obviously this would be used with cold weather clothing.

The pistol is a a HK P2000sk. The gun currently wears a Crimson Trace laser I'd like to keep. But I wonder about its effectiveness in a high-stress situation and am willing to remove.

I've tried a IWB holster at the 4 o'clock position for something bulkier, like the P2000, and didn't care for it. For summer clothes I have a pocket S&W 642.

As for the laser, I find them to be a niche product. For general use, you're better off just using your iron sights or at most, a red dot optic.

I think Galco makes the standard, the Miami Classic is what everything else seems to be based on. Other brands look very similar to me so I think I'd just go with that if I were to try shoulder carry. But the way I see it is this, I put a level one retention holster on my belt and carry OWB with a cover garment, I like the ability to fend off with the left hand in close quarters and a natural draw that doesn't sweep anything but the bad guy. As much as I think the Sonny Crockett look is badass for sure, I feel it's more show than go. Just my 2 cents, I certainly support you doing it if it works for you OP.

The thing a laser brings to the table is the ability to effectively aim from non standard shooting positions, ie; from cover. I just (like Mute) feel that it's a pretty far fetched scenario and I opt for old world training and simplicity. Night sights on my guns and that's as deep as I go with gadgets and mods for CCW weapons.

Galco Jack***** Rig for my DW CBoB.

The standard Miami Classic has pistol going horizontal and prints for my slim build. The angle of the Jack***** Rig allows me to better conceal.

There will be personal preference and handgun make & model which can affect one's decision. Consideration of shoulder holsters may vary based on holster angles, ammo carriers, and shoulder harnesses used.

I don't know anything about the P2000SK and how a laser might affect whether there will be a holster available with laser installed.

I have S&W J-Frames, too, but seldom carry them alone (vs being a "bug") but admit I've sometimes done so (those times when it otherwise might be no gun, instead). With a 2" J-frame, I just lose too much initial ammo capacity and I'm not as accurate or quick vs. with my semiauto pistols. I still like owning and occasionally carrying those J-frames though, but more as a backup gun (BUG) in addition to another gun.

I use a shoulder rig 30% of the time. Depending on how you are built, I suggest Galco if you are normal sized (I am not). If you want custom I like Craft Holsters and Andrews Leather. If you are slender Andrews Monarch Rig will allow you to Cary without belt tie downs. If you are large, Craft Holsters and Andrews Leather will custom make it to fit you. The down side to shoulder rigs is they are not as fast as other holsters, the up side is they are great if you have to spend a lot of time in a car or truck.

For shoulder holster definitely the JackAss. It is the most comfortable and the most concealed in my opinion BUT you do have to wear a jacket that does not 'fly' open as you move.

I am liking the concept of that Craft Roto holster. Has anyone used it?

I have a few of them. For Hk USP 40 full size, S&W 629 6.5in, and 1911 5in. Really only good for large/long handguns that don’t work well in horizontal shoulder holsters. Quality is very good. I think it was made in Czech Republic. All required break-in with a large ziplock freezer bag method if you CCW.
They are excellent for seated draw inside a vehicle.
The 1911 could also be used in a horizontal. I’m going to get a Galco for it. I have the Miami Classic for Glock 29, 27, and a Walther PPK.
