IWB for S&W Shield for big guys

    Hi guys,

Any recommendations for a IWB holster for a S&W9 Shield compact? It will be for CCW and I'm 280lbs.

I'm looking at Alien Gear and JX Tactical.

Explore over +1000 Alien Gear Holsters. Find IWB, OWB, appendix, duty, and modular holsters designed for concealed carry, law enforcement, and everyday defense.

Find premium tactical holsters and gear, designed for durability, comfort, and reliability. Ideal for law enforcement and tactical enthusiasts alike.
    Thanks,
    Emil

I'm 6' ~275lbs and carried a shield for about three years in a Galco KingTuk:
The patented KingTuk provides the best of both worlds: the comfort of a leather IWB with the speed and easy holstering of Kydex construction.

Very comfortable with the leather backing, easy to re-holster with the polymer shell and conceals the gun very well. Many companies make a holster in this style, but the Galco seemed like the nicest fit and finish to me, and they are a reputable American company.

Don't have any experience with the holsters you listed.

      Good luck!

I second the king tuck or similar by Crossbreed. I really like how the leather backer spreads out the pressure of the gun. I have a Milt Sparks Summer Special but its really uncomfortable as it digs in.

I'm 6'0 and about 270. I have the JX Tactical fat guy holster with an M&P Shield and it is very comfortable and concealed at the 3 o'clock position. Having it anywhere from 11-1 o'clock position is still uncomfortable while sitting due to my gut. I am new to concealed carry and realized that working out and losing weight is much more important to conceal now.

I second the Lighttuck with a long clip. I?m not particularly a big guy, but I do have a little belly that have kept me from feeling comfortable with carrying AIWB. However, finally put the long clip on my Vedder Lighttuck (I also added the claw when I originally bought the holster) after having the holster and the long clip (holster comes with a short clip) for almost 2 years. Since then, I?ve been carrying my G26 AIWB for 2 weeks, so far. Looking at the JX Tactical holster gave me the motivation to do this as 1. I was wondering what made it different than other holsters. Came to the conclusion that it just sat very low in the waist line. Something my Vedder can achieve with the long clip I have sitting around. 2. I didn?t want to shell out another $100 for a new holster (like most people, I have a drawer full of holsters).

By the way, Vedder is having a 20% off everything, right now.

I am 6?4 and 245 lbs. I just ordered one off of Amazon, made by a company called Guns and Flowers. It?s a Kydex one. IWB and seems to work great. It?s a retention model and cost me 20 bucks.

I really like the Hidden Hybrid Holsters (https://hiddenhybridholsters.com/) and use their double clip IWB holsters for my M&P Shield and Sig Sauer P229. Super comfortable and I wear it strongside at 3 o'clock. I have a similar Cross Breed holster, but the leather backer is thinner and also squeaks when I wear it. I'm sure the squeak will eventually go away, but the Hidden Hybrid ones are much more comfortable. I'm 6'1", 240lbs.

If anyone wants, I've got a couple shield holsters for sale. Tulster w/ claw and a ANR master blaster sidecar style. Both upgraded with the DCC monoblock. I ran them for a while and from the 2, the tulster was my favorite. Will let them go for cheap if anyone wants to try them. PM for details and pics.

That said, my new favorite for a shield9 is a tenicor velo4. Appendix only. Option for 1 or 2 DCC clips. The thing is great, super comfy, and the built in wedge helps with concealment. Best $100 I've spent on the shield.

Stealthgear is my go-to for that type of holster and that type of gun. Carried at 4:30 and it blends really well.
Buy made in USA whenever possible.

I'm a hefty fellow. I carry a similarly sized subcompact with a Black Rhino Concealment iwb Holster at 3 oclock
