You Should Buy These Cheap Accessories If You Carry A Shield

I'm cheap. But I kept thinking that I was sometimes barely getting a good grip on my Shield when I dry fire practice and when I practice drills with live ammo and shooting. I know many others have posted these same minor mods but I wanted to add my impressions. If you carry a Shield, these two modestly priced accessories will improve your groups and give you peace of mind about accidentally losing hold of your pistol.

    1. Pierce Grip Extensions.
One of the number one complaints about the Shield is that it is thin and can be hard to hold correctly because it is so narrow. As with any subcompact, your pinky is typically hanging out in space. I added these Pierce Grip Extensions to all of my mags. They don't increase capacity but I carry the gun with one in the chamber and with a spare eight rounder. As they say, if you need more than 16 rounds, you are probably in a gunfight, not merely stopping a threat so I feel fairly confident carrying around sixteen rounds. I love how this extension helps me to grip the pistol better and it has tightened my groups because it now seems easier to get all of the geometry correct to make it so my hand can grip the gun straight. I used to typically pull all of my groups to the left of the bullseye. Now they are closer, if not right on. These sell for $7.03 ea. on Amazon as an add-on https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    2. Talon Rubberized Grip Wrap
I would never stipple but I did want more grip so I decided to try the Talon that so many have on their Shields and other plastic fantastics. It wasn't too difficult to apply and so far, I like the increased grippage without permanently marring my gun with stippling. Well worth the money, I think it was $17.99 on Amazon.

So to summarize my micro review, buy these, put them on your Shield, carry with confidence, the improvements in comfort and confidence that you are holding your Shield in the best way possible to achieve accuracy are well worth the $25.00.

Cappy, the talon grips can be very good in the rubber texture, avoid the sand paper except for competition as they are very hard on clothing.

As for the grip extension my feeling is they are good, but I never carry the 7 round mag. 8 round mags bought in quantity from Quantico Tactical are usually $25 each and for little more than the price of the extension I get 8 rounds. Now truth be told I have 10 mags because I shoot competition with the gun as well as carry it. The 8 round fits the hand so much better.

By the way I would ad the Ameriglo T-CAP sights to the list.

Shield 9mm 8 round mags $17 - basic shipping is $5 no matter how many you buy.

Even better deal, much better than carrying the 7 rounder with the pinky extension.

I like the rubber grips, but don't think I would like the pinky extension. I don't like carrying with the 8 shot mag as it makes concealment a little harder. I use the 7 shot mag with magguts to increase it to 8 rounds with one in the pipe for 9 total.

Then put the hyve extensions on the 8 round mags and you have ten round. They work very well.

Thanks. I've been looking for a cheaper magazine than $38 everywhere I go.

I agree, I too have heard that about the sandpaper grips. Wow, you shot competition with a Shield? Or with any subcompact for that matter? I thought most competitions were with full sized pistols? Shows what I know.

I highly recommend the new magguts +2. The 7 is now 9 and the new base plate adds a place for my pinky. I carry the 8+2 as the spare.

I have had great luck with the Magguts conversion kit in my G43 mags.

I am hoping a similar kit is forthcoming for the .45 Shield...

                          Ditto.

I'd rather just carry the 8 since the extension makes the 7 print as badly as the 8.
It's not horrible, but it's a bit more noticeable if someone is looking for it.

As far as the Talon tape, I like it. I no longer use it.
After less than 3 months of carry, it had begun to wrinkle/rotate and pull away where it rubs against my skin.
At first I just trimmed it a bit, but it continued, so I removed it.

If I really wanted to carry with the Talon tape, I would probably replace it every 2-3 months.
