    Overwatch Holsters Treadstone Review

The Overwatch Treadstone Kydex IWB Holster

The first thing I noticed upon unwrapping was the coyote grey color I had ordered it in. There was no particular reason other than to be different from the day in day out black. There are other holster manufacturers that make products in all kinds of colors and patterns, and those are fine and dandy. Since this is meant to be concealed, fashion sense really should not factor it. Something bright and flashy might draw unwanted attention if there is any incidental exposure. The coyote grey was a non-black yet still subdued option so I went with it.

The material is of great quality. Honestly, I do not know the exact thickness, nor what is common among different manufacturers. I do know that some of the very cheap ones I have handled were much thinner and more flexible than this. Others have been so thick as to be a real bear to insert or remove the gun. This holster seemed spot on for the intended use. The clip is mounted via two screws, and is very beefy. Mine came with a clip for a 1 3/4" belt, and was also the same width across. This will help spread the load out over a bit more area along the belt.

I ordered this for an M&P Shield, right hand, and full body/slide shield. Making sure the weapon was clear, then once again, I tried it for a test fit. Insertion was light and easy, right up to the end. Then it was a bit more firm and clicked into place. Removal was the same in reverse, a nice bit of resistance, then slipped free. The finish on the edges are all perfectly smooth. There is not a single bit that is sharp, has a burr, or imperfect at all. I have seen some other holsters that you could see were rushed and had sanding marks or other blemishes. The entire edge fits perfectly to the gun, except at the clip mount. It is clearanced there just a tad so the mounting hardware does not touch the gun. For obvious reasons, the trigger guard opening is completely covered. If you have installed larger/taller sights, there is plenty of room for them in the sight channel.

Fitting it into my waistband and hooking onto my belt was easy. Once on, it felt nice and secure. Snugged up against the body, I could not see any telltale printing even with just a t shirt on. Of course, a Shield is not very large and hard to conceal anyway. With a decent belt, this seems to carry perfectly. Living in southern California, shorts are a wardrobe staple. Knowing this, I put on some basic cargo shorts without a belt to see how the holster would work like this. The clip is nice and strong, so it grips the waistband well. Drawing was not a problem at all, the holster always stayed in place and never slipped off. I have worn shorts and this holster/gun combo around the house quite a bit, and it has been very comfortable. Doing active things, like playing lacrosse with the dog, mowing the lawn, etc. has been fine. The only movement has been a bit of tilting back towards the butt of the gun, but it is minimal and stays in that position with no further movement. Around the house, I wear mesh basketball/athletic shorts a fair amount of the time. With an elastic waist, these are far from ideal for mounting a holster and gun onto. Still, I wanted to see how it would work. There was some sag and twisting, which was to be expected. On the draw stroke, the shorts pulled up a bit, but the clip held tight, and the gun would come clear. Again, not ideal, but would suffice in a pinch.

They are currently available to fit a handful of guns, including models from Springfield, Glock, Smith&Wesson, Sig, Kahr, and some 1911's. As time goes on, I am sure the list will grow. At approximately $39, it is a great value, especially considering the top shelf build quality. All in all, the Treadstone is a great choice if you are looking for a kydex IWB holster.

Looks like many of the others on the block. Nice shape, my only complaint is that if your going to wear a holster hooked to your belt it ought to be tuckable. If your mostly wearing basketball shorts and carrying a midsized gun like a Shield, I have to ask if you have tried a Sticky Holster or Remora. Seems like it would be more comfortable.

I do think if your able to wear basketball shorts and have the athletic activity such as lacrosse and it stays in place that is impressive.

No, I have not tried a sticky or Remora yet. They do look like a great option and do plan to get one. Using this holster with the mesh shorts is an edge case scenario at best. I just tried it to see how it would work, but would intend for it to be a regular thing. The dog lacrosse was not with mesh shorts, rather basic cargo shorts. The mesh shorts just do not have the support for much movement other than say walking from one side of the house to the other. Beyond that, the weight of the gun is likely to pull them down. Not a good situation. Your gun is now on the floor where you cannot draw, but you are also caught with your pants down.

If your in OC near Mission Viejo, come on by my CCW Store and try one on, we officially open Tuesday. Of course if you order one online we offer a 15 day money back guarantee. If you try a Sticky Holster for the Shield you will want the MD-4.

Kydex holster, leather, hybrid and friction all have unique strengths and weakness and well you are likely going to want to have more than one style, it depends on how you dress, and how much you plan to practice, among other things.

I have an Overwatch overwatch model for my G23 and my Shield. If you wear with athletic shorts there has to be a drawstring (but I have a tough time believing just an elastic band would hold your shorts up when carrying).

I rode my motorcycle over 375 miles in one day with my Shield at 3 o'clock - there were times I couldn't tell it was there.
