Problems carrying Double Stack Spare Mags

I find myself often leaving behind my spare double stack mags because they are simply too bulky. The OWB double stack mag carriers I have both print and/or hurt too much to carry. So I end up just taking them along only if I have a jacket.

Concealing a spare single stack is no problem. The irony is that the reason why I have a double stack is to have greater capacity... but the reality is that I actually have more capacity when I carry my single stack CCW.

    What do you guys use?

I'm considering these, has anyone tried them? How do you like them?

http://www.snagmag.com/ - keeps them perfect and not falling to the bottom of your pocket.

I found one for 25$ shipped someplace a while back, may check fleabay etc . They dont look hard to make either now i got one in my hand.
I tried all kinds of belt holders and while sitting they did not work well for me but this is just like having a knife on a clip in your pocket .

Caliberreta, I assume you have tired the simple mag light / leatherman type ballistic nylon belt pouch. I carry a full size M&P .45 double stack mag, my spare is barely noticeable to me. Usually carried 10 0'clock position. They are inexpensive around $10. You can get them on Amazon, or in about 3 weeks I will be carrying a similar piece.

The Sticky Holster IWB / OWB mag holder is ok. About as soft as you can get.

What exactly have you tried so far, and what is your general build.

Not to put a plug in for myself, but in about 3 weeks we will be opening a CCW specific retail location is South Orange County were people will be able to come and handle, try on product before they buy, so your getting the right thing.

I just stick one in my pocket or carry it in a jacket pocket (cooler weather permitting). Yes, they are bulky. However, it teaches me to carry less stuff and only have the essentials.

My concern there is lint getting stuck in the mag and inducing a malfunction.

I have a leather pouch which originally came with a pair of glasses. I trimmed the length down to fit my standard capacity double stack.

It now fits nicely in my weak side back pocket. If the pocket is big enough I put my wallet in next to it which keeps it upright.

The leather pads the sharp edges and quite honestly I forget it's there.

That gives me 10 in the mag, one in the pipe, 16 in my back pocket and 20 more in the center consul.

I don't carry a standard capacity mag in the gun because of the weight and the fact it makes the grip larger.

I would recommend using Remora holsters to keep lint out and have the texture to keep it in place for when you have to draw. They are fairly thin, lightweight, and functional. I have some but have yet to use them.

As mentioned, I use my back pocket. If you want to be careful make sure to get all the lint out...although, I've never had a problem with it getting in my magazine.

The problem I am experiencing with Double Stack mags in the pants pockets, either front or back, is that they sink to the bottom, take a horizontal or diagonal position and then flop around there, simply just stick out too much or just feel awkward - at least on what happens with me, when wearing jeans, which is what I wear 90% of the time. It's not going to work for sure on shorts or dress pants.

On my jeans for example, if I stick a double stack mag in the front pocket, it will sink down to the bottom and mega-print right in the middle of my thigh. It's unsightly and uncomfortable. Same goes for the back pocket.

7Sprig's recommendation for the SnagMag actually gave me a ridiculously simple idea to try, I'm not even sure why I never thought about it before.

So I tried it for 2 days in a row, and this has worked out perfectly for me. For 2 days in a row, I've carried around a spare double stack, without knowing its even there anymore, and it didn't cost me anything.

My double stack mags happen to have enough of a Lip/Extension that I can actually hang them off my front pocket, and it actually stays in place. Here are some pics:

My Glock mag with GAP Concealment Finger Rest Extension (9 or 10rd mag):

The extended lip combined with snug fitment of the double stack in the front jeans pocket holds the mag in place all day. Does not work with Single Stack - mag is not thick enough to stay put - it falls off and to the bottom of the pocket.

My HK's, 10-rd mags either for .45 or 9mm (pic below). --- The 10-rd .45 mag of the HK is fat and long, but it conceal SUPER WELL this way!! The baseplates are those used for the P2000SK (9mm or .40) or for the 45C (.45ACP):

I've been carrying around like this for 2 days. No Mag Carrier needed -- stays in place.... very comfortable.

HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!! ---- I highly recommend you guys try.

Caliberetta, If you decide your still looking for something let me know. Says your in OC. If you in South OC you can stop by the shop and try out one of the Sticky Holster Mag holders and see if that works for you.

We are a CCW only shop.
