Background Check

I'm considering applying for a CCW and a complete noob at this. However, before the application I would like to run a background check on myself to make sure I don't find any surprises. What type of background check do I need to get for myself? What levels beside FBI and DOJ? What do I ask for at the background check places?

How much would it cost? And where do I go (in the Orange County area?) I've seen Idento GO where they advertise for background checks and live scan....can they be used for this purpose?

If you're worried YOU might find surprises, well, this puzzles me. How can you be surprised about your own background?

Do you know your own background? Have you been arrested and or convicted?

If so, it's going to be discovered. It's not going to get lost in the cracks.

You can certainly do a livescan of yourself. However, you won't be able to do as thorough of a background check as a Sheriff's department can. You simply don't have access to the databases and files that they do. And they don't make those available just because you ask nicely.

Like Citadel said though, there really shouldn't be any surprises. Tell the truth in your application. If you did something, had any law enforcement contact, they will see that. So don't try and hide it. Police records don't magically go away after a period of time.

I agree with Citadelgrad87 and Sleighter, one should know what is in their background. Maybe he thinks, because of the issues DOJ has with DROS BG checks there might problems, and doesn't realize the BGC for a CCW uses more points of identification, full set of prints etc.
