I am in the process of purchasing a new firearm specifically for every day carry and a friend of who has his ccw said to start the process now. Since the application asks for the firearms make model and serial number should I wait to apply once i have the firearm or can I add it later on in the process.

Probably depends on which is your IA, I do not know anything about any other agency I can only speak to Ventura Co. We could have added that info later. I actually switched guns during my interview.NRA Life Member

I don't regret burning some bridges. I regret that some people weren't on those bridges when I burnt them! -
You can add it later but you will have to schedule another appointment and then pay a fee....I'd buy it now since you are going to have to qualify on it in training class before you can add it to your license anyway.

OP, you won't need to do a modification with an extra appointment. SSD stopped doing those, but for you it won't matter. As long as you show up for your final issuance appt having qualified with up to 3 guns, you'll be fine. I recommend that you put three on it if you are able; once they issue, any changes will have to wait 2 years until you renew.Like granular silica through an equatorially constricted chronographic vessel, so are the circadian georotations of our metabolic persistences.Comment

As OBG outlined, in Sacramento County, you do not have to list the firearms on the initial application. You can go to the initial interview without declaring firearms.
It will take a couple of weeks to receive approval to move forward with LiveScan, and that process appears to be taking a couple of months. Check the timelines of individuals who have completed the Sacramento process to see what the lag times are.
You must have made a decision well before the issuance meeting, as you will have to provide proof of qualification with the weapon you want to list. That means you have to choose, purchase, DROS 10 days, get proficient with the weapon and then receive the training/certification.
If you want more weapons, then you have to wait 30 days, DROS, etc.
A year and a half ago, Sac Sheriff halted LTC modifications submitted solely to change/add weapons so they could focus on issuance and renewal. That remains in effect. We don't know when it may be lifted, but it's reasonable to expect that you will be limited for quite some time to only the weapons listed at issuance.Last edited by Dvrjon; 11-30-2014, 11:45 AM.Comment
