CCW police with LHCPD AZ asking for my permit

I have a second home in Lake Havasu City AZ for past 30 years and of course spend allot of time there. I thought I would share this police encounter with you:
I pull out of the marina on Sunday afternoon in LHC. I know on the island they have been stopping trucks with boats for Quaggle mussels inspections. "$100.00 fine if your boat drain plug is not out" Anyway I have my brothers boat like my boat has the new Quaggle muscle sticker on it, so I get waved through the temporary inspection area. No sooner then I go through I get lite up by a motorcycle Havasu City cop. "Setting the stage about me" Now bear in mind im older big tall no tats no stickers on a new truck house dad, I don't drink at all and don't take any kind of medications nor did this enter into any type of conversation "I say this because many boaters are DUI at this check station". I have my 20 year old daughter and two of her friends in the truck.

Exact: LHC PD~ Before I discuss why you were pulled over do you have any weapons on you or in your vehicle? I thought to myself, what the hell im in Arizona???? Now with both hands on the steering wheel I reply yes in my truck center console, he asks me what kind it was, I said Springfield 9m sub compact, "Pause" He then asks me for my license, registration and POI"I already had them in my hand" Cop: Do you have a California permit for that weapon? I respond YES, Cop: do you have any other weapons I should know about? I respond NO.

He proceeds to inform me that the boat license plate was bent into a L shape and unlawful, this due to our steep driveway, I knew it was bent. Anyway he's still at my door no running my license etc. He pauses again. I said do you need to see my California CCW, he then asks me to remove it and I did. He now has my DL, REG, Proof of Insurance CA CCW but no trailer reg. He proceeds and asks me if I would step out of my truck so he could show me the damaged license plate, I did. He runs it and it comes back OK. I then ask him while outside of my truck "Hey Arizona is a open carry and concealed carry state right?" He replies for my safety I need to know for whom im interacting with. I said but you asked me if I had a weapon before you informed me the reason I was being pulled over or my DL license, I find that unusual. He then tells me "Don't tell me how to do my job and now goes on to tell me how im responsible for having the registration for any vehicle I tow. At this point I laid back I could see he's becoming excellerated so I stopped talking. He choose to explain in detail his job and my lack of responsibility for not having a copy of the reg. This cop was in his late 20s 5-7 about 140#s I wrote it off to a Rookie kid cop. No ticket, stiff warning! Never viewed my gun.

Wow, that's pretty short for a cop.

        Greetings,

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why did the police officer ask you for a CA CCW, if you were in AZ? Because you had a CA driver's license?

        Thanks.

          Was wondering this as well.

Either way, sucks that you got hassled.

I think you sized it up pretty accurately.

All I can say is "Attitude Happens", even in Arizona. I guess he told you!

So, this encounter could have been avoided altogether because of a bent plate?

Why on God's Green Earth do you think you know anything about how a traffic stop is supposed to go? Only on Calguns can someone admit they violated a traffic law, get a warning instead of a ticket, and then still complain about it.

Yeah, but don't you get that the officer was only 5'7"?

So... You lost 15 mins of your day over a bent license plate?

I feel I would have bent it back when he told me and thanked him for pointing it out.

And only a police officer would think it's ok to pull someone over , waste 15 min of tax payer time , paid, and vacation to point out that they had a bent license plate... He could have pulled up and informed the driver no?

This^ Oh wow. Thanks officer Murdough , have a nice day , keep cool.

Pat, you're in AZ right? I don't really think the OP was complaining about the reason he was pulled over as much as the line of questioning surrounding the CW .... Still a stark contrast as to what many in CA have to deal with... I think it shows a couple of things... one that not all encounters in AZ go as one would suspect, and two they are still far far different then your encounters here in CA

He was just fishing for a DUI, Half if not more people pulling a boat out a that lake have been drinking. As far as the CCW questioning. I have no idea .
