    Specific list of businesses or places you can't carry

    Is there any list online? If I'm going out with the family to a science center or something like that non government facility, I'd like to know in advance so I don't have to do a quick about face upon seeing a sign or metal detector? This goes for legal length pocket knives too I guess.

    All my searching comes up with statistic reports and metal detecting supplies.

    ]So you want someone to create a list and update it as it changes daily????

    You didn't search very far, considering it is a sticky at the top of the forum.

    We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

      Go to the place in advance. Look for signs. Also check out its website. Factor in your own particular boundaries in the often-discussed issue of no force of law in private businesses vs whatever restrictions may or may not be printed on your license. Any list you read will be extremely incomplete, and accuracy will vary from entry to entry.

        It works the other way - carry everywhere you don't see prohibited: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=338205

        Signs have no legal force, but may be a problem for your issuing agency (and we might get a court case making signs have force) so it's a good idea to
        (1) first, while NOT armed, ask if such a sign means licensed LTC - trained, background-checked, and approved by a Sheriff or police chief;
        (2) if the answer is vague or 'yes', ask if the business really expects a robber to obey the sign;
        (3) if they still persist in their error, thank them politely for their time, and say that since you are not welcome, you will be taking your money elsewhere, and recommending that your family and friends do likewise.

        Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

          Linkey no workey, but if you were speaking of the text librarian posted, then yes, I saw it. I do like your Idea of a running list; places not welcome being public or private.

          Oh man. That was the basis of my question, to avoid all the extra running around.

          Thanks. I read that post, but I guess I was fuzzy about the difference between government and public buildings (paid for by gov with public money).

            My point was that since things can change, and no list is going to be even close to comprehensive, a list sounds far more helpful than it actually would be.

              always have a lock bock in your trunk...Life is unpredictable...you don't always know the day will go as planned...you should always have a way to take your gun off and secure it....leave it behind if you have to

              "scouting" locations ahead of time?...thats just letting the gun wear you...

                I do, as I already have a truck gun safe well hidden. As for the tail wagging the dog, that's why I posted this. If I wanted to let fear rule my life, I wouldn't carry or leave my house.

                It seems it wouldn't be too hard to keep a running list of places not otherwise listed by the current sticky. The thread would not allow any stray comments aside from posts of "places" you couldn't carry. Updated by the OP, the page could easily and quickly be browser searched when someone is planning their non-routine day. Posts would consist of people's observations in their spare time.

                Examples:
                "Hey. We are going to the ______________. Let me check calguns real quick to see if..."

                or

                "Mental note for next time, they have a metal detector at ___________ and/or don't allow CCW. I will leave my pistol in the car next time and update the Calguns thread."

                I don't think this information is in any legal violation. Hindsight tells me that I have never went through a metal detector except when I knew it was coming. So I guess my point is almost moot. Just trying to be as safe and efficient as possible.

                  Not my place to tell you where you can't or shouldn't carry, but I saw an interesting sign the other day at Ocean's 11 Casino in Oceanside.

                  It was part of a sign that listed things that weren't allowed in the casino, and one of the things that was on the list was weapons.

                  What made it unique is that is specifically mentioned permits. If memory serves it was worded like this:

                  Weapons Prohibited (Permit or Otherwise)

                  It was the first time I'd seen legally carried weapons specifically mentioned.

                      Not a lot of California places listed yet, but there's an App for that. It's called Posted!

                        Excessively done, yeah. Going to some event at a specific venue you've never visited, not a big deal, unless the distance is prohibitive.

                        I have a way to lock mine up regardless. There are also times I leave it at home. Cue the "24/7 even in the shower" crowd and their usual refrain.

                          Would i have to clear the idea with mods and lay out a plan? I'd be happy to start it and see where it goes. Just not sure if people will contribute.
