Got pulled over, CHP cool with CCW

I was coming home from LA on Hwy 99 in Merced and was pulled over for speeding by a CHP patrol car/officer. It was around 10:30pm and had my wife, son and daughter-in-law in the car with me. I knew I was speeding and expected a ticket. He approached on the passenger side, so I immediately leaned over my wife and gave him my CCW and clearly stated what it was and pointed to my .45 in the door pocket to my left. I did this out of respect for him and to let him know up front. He was very cool about it, told me to leave it there and said its fine. He never questioned it, just talked calmly and took my CCW and drivers license to his car. I sat expecting the big ticket. Meanwhile my son says "I think he's going to let you off. You showed him your permit and gun, were calm and nonconfrontational and have a clean record." Well, my son was right. The officer came back and told me I checked out clean and he was very thankful for showing the CCW and gun immediately. So he told me to slow down and have a safe trip home. Phew! No ticket and a cool CHP officer. Plus the CCW wasn't a problem. I wasn't sure what to expect since I've never been pulled over since I got my CCW six years ago. I shouldn't have been speeding in the first place, my bad. Live and learn, especially when carrying, which is all the time.

I've been stopped around the same area coming back from San Diego at around 1 or 2am. Nearly no one on the road, should be totally fine to let folks go 85, but whatever.

I was very thankful he didn't write me up. I was going around 80, I deserved it. Definitely felt like I won the lottery as I drove away!

I got let go the other night as well. They are on a mission to get DUI's. Don't blame them. My faith in CHP was restored, he was super cool!

I've been pulled over twice in LA County and showed my LTC both times. The CHP gave me a ticket and Sheriff's deputy didn't.

Congrats on avoiding the ticket, yet how many CA LTC holders does a CHP officer typically encounter? Probably very few, which makes you stand out to him and you handled the situation very well, so no ticket!
