Range qualification requirements - Ventura

What exactly are the requirements during the range portion of the 16hr training? Strong hand, weak hand, drawing firearms from concealment etc etc?

I'm in Ventura County if that helps.

for the class I took here in OC, the shooting was indoor, at 3 distances standing, no holster drawing at all, 72 rounds for each gun you are planning to list

Yes, adding your county helps; there is no statewide standard, so the local issuing agencies get to set their own.

To add to this, the county approved instructor is also allowed to select his qualification requirements as long as the county approves it. So even in a given county, there could be many versions.

I know in Sacramento there is more than one version of qualification requirements that the county accepts.

The version I qualified under was a "simple" 15 yard, 10 yard, and 3 yard timed out of holster with strong hand: 6 shot-reload-6 shot. Out of 36 shots, 39 had to be in zone.

I have heard of a version that was strong and weak hand that is accepted in Sac.

El Dorado County has no qualification requirements and needed only an 8 hour class... not even a "beginning" version. They accepted an 8 hour "level 4" CCW class.

Sacramento County that I took was 3 (15 seconds), 7 (30 seconds) , and 15 yards (45 seconds), draw, 6 shots, reload, six shots. Only 5 allowed outside of the profile.

No matter what the qualification, you will have plenty of time.

Contacted a "newly" certified instructor. He said his qualification is only 10 rounds per gun

19k, who was it ? Did you happen to get a price?

If I remember correctly, my qualification was 36 rounds per gun (three distances). Disqualified if ANY round fell off the target bounds.

They guy I am going through says he has a 2 shot test at 3 7 and 15 yards. Draw to center of chest, place second hand on firearm and as you extend to target place finger on trigger. Take your 2 shots and then retract to center of chest with finger off trigger, then check for additions targets (look right, look left) return firearm to holster. Both rounds hit black, you are good to go. His philosophy is if you hit two rounds and control fire you don't need 12 let along having to reload.

I asked what if the guy has body armor...he said the side to side check is also to see if the guy is getting up and returning your firearm to holster will most likely NOT get you shot by other possible CCWers or the police. Don't do that check their pulse crap, you shot them because they were a threat, now they are down call the police.
