    Why CCW?

Maybe I'm just a tard, but I don't know why so many people would want to carry a concealed weapon. I could see having one in the car on trips or when you're carrying money or expensive property, etc. Or if someone is threatening you.

I just think its too much responsibility and I have little interest in it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to. I put on the uniform, picked up a rifle and took the oath as a Marine and would fight to protect the 2nd Amendment. I'm just not getting the CCW thing right now.

    I know I'm getting old, but . . . .

    Can someone set me straight?

Some might say not only is it a responsibility but an obligation as a citizen to continue to exercise our rights lest they be lost.

I do agree. It is a heavy responsibility that should be weighed carefully.

I think people should CCW but it's not totally for everyone. I wish I could CCW and I'm kinda wondering how I can be able to.

The reason I want to CCW is because I go places that aren't exactly known to be safe.

I go to the gym at night and I always see signs saying "lock your car, there have been many reportings of car theft" blah blah.

I work in downtown SF and whenever I pass by or go around Folsom street, 5th street, or Mission, I just wish I had my Glock 23 on me or something.

There are a lot of crazy people and shady people where I'm from. A lot of those crazy people are mentally messed up in the head and I'm sure are on drugs or under some kind of influence. Youtube 'BART fights' and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Why have a fire extinguisher in the home?
I mean fires are really rare, they don't happen too much. If your safe right?

Do you have the mystic mind that will tell you WHEN someone wanting to harm you or your family will show up?

If you do, i can see your point. I personally don't have the ESP to know when or even if someone will try to carjack me, get caught in a store when it is held up, attempted robbery by those on drugs, or perhaps someone wanting to rape my beautiful body

I carry so I can have another option available for self defense.

A criminal sets the location, time, and situation of a bad encounter.

I shouldn't have to put myself in a situation that requires a CCW in order to get one.

Sorry, but I have to agree with that...politely.

I've have been carrying since we elected a good sheriff here in Sac Co. I have never felt even close to needing it, but I the event I ever do...I will come home that night to my family, v. dying on the sidewalk somewhere.

I sort of see what you mean in that it is a lot of responsibility, but I think that's something you will get used to the longer you carry. Maybe carry without a round in the chamber for the first month if you're really not comfortable with it.

For me it would just about self-protection. Why limit your ability to protect yourself to your own home?

Just wait until you are taken hostage somewhere, either in a bank, or on a BART train, etc. Then you'll change your mind fast.

Even if you never actively "ccw", what about the legal exemption it provides you as a gun owner?

You don't see the benefit in not having to worry about the legal definition of "loaded" or "concealed" or the exemption to GFSZ when transporting your handguns?

Even if you never carry, it literally is a "get out of jail free card" to a number of CA laws that could potentially make you a felon or get you arrested on the whims of a LEO who may or may not appreciate the finer nuances of the law.

How many times have you heard that you must have ammo separate from your firearms when transporting? Have a CCW, never have to worry again, you're covered.

A criminal also chooses the weapons for the engagement.

If the criminal brings a gun and the O/P does not, then he is outgunned and at his mercy.

The police will eventually show up to write their report about how the O/P died, but other than this he will be history.

                            Good points, Sleighter.

My favorite part however is the two second or less draw and shooting from concealment.
