    Carry gun modifications

    Question regarding listed guns.
can you have a gun listed with modifications
    IE
    extended take down levers (Glock)
    3.5 lb disconnector
    6lb trigger spring
    24lb mainspring
or do they have to be box stock and who checks that?
    thanks

Agency option - call and ask.

No statewide policy or Penal Code specification.

San Bernardino County, no, only grips and sights. Ask your IA. If they don't want the deputies to modify their duty guns, why would they want a civilian to do so?

Holy cow... it never ever ever dawned on me that any custom mods you did - sights, lasers, ambi controls, extended controls - could rule out a gun from CCW usage. This kind of stuns me. Somewhat surprised this is the first time I've ever come across the topic in general reading.

That being said the analogy of why they dont want deputies is not good at all as that is easily explained why not & wouldn't have a bearing on civilians. For example, then the agencies armorers are not having to work on so many different modified weapons nor have to stock specialty tools or training. All guns would be similar across the board to work on given they might have hundreds to maintain. And/or having unmodified guns allows virtually any officer to pick it up & use it with same muscle memory or training as it is just like theirs. As well less parts to stock & most all parts work across their weapons.

None of this matters in the civilian world given you own & maintain your weapon.

If there is no written direct guidance on modifications don't ask - the answer will likely be no. Most agencies want to inspect weapons that go on the permit... so present modified weapon for inspection. If you get through that you're good to go.

Follow the rules, but don't intentionally make your life harder.

            Yeah agreed.

Mine are all polymer so no grip issues (like say a 1911). My biggest tweaks would be sights. I always change to night sights. But not sure they would even know as night sights are common stock. Fortunately my most modded pistols are not on my carry list, but the topic still surprised me.

OP is in Nor Cal, but in OC the biggest issues are no lasers and trigger pull must be at least 4.5#.

I've been through the process. You'll get your guns inspected by the armorer. He'll tell you. His approval is one of the steps in the process. Yes, not in the PC, but a local rule we must put up with until someone sues or things are standardized.

I asked that specific question of the SDSO clerk during my first interview and stated there is no restrictions .... in fact there has been people issued CCW permits with .50 AE Desert Eagles listed on them.

That's gonna take a VERY large baggy shirt to conceal that pistol for sure.

Anyone know what LA county's policy is? All I do to my glocks is add the OEM G34 trigger, vickers extended mag release, stippling and night sights...

If you change your location from "Nor-Cal" to your actual county you can get better responses. Nor-Cal is a huge place

Sorry I do not know and since only a handful of LA County permits exist, you should expect them to be very restrictive. Plan on going with complete stock.

Is So Cal close to Nor Cal? I always thought they were far away from eachother.
