    CCW Questions

In qualilfying for CCW, apparently one can have up to 3 qualified weapons and these weapons must be qualified with at the CCW training class. Couple of questions.

    1. Is this specific to the actual weapon or the model of the weapon? What if one has multiple copies of an identical weapon, e.g. a Colt 45 Commander for example.

    2. How much hassle is it to substitute a different weapon later?

    3. What else should I know about this?

Obviously, one's selection of the three weapons is a matter deserving of considerable thought.

I have a CCW in Sacramento County, here's what I can tell you based on the rules here:

    1. The weapons' exact models and serial numbers are listed on the permit, so they must be the exact guns you qualify with and list as carrying.

    2. Sac County currently has CCW modifications closed, so changing weapons out at this time is impossible without being up for renewal. Hopefully your county is a little more open to permit modification.

    3. Not sure what else you would need to know, but here's to hoping the Peruta case allows for some changes to the specifics of CCW policy, namely the part about swapping out carry guns.

The caliber is also specified too.

Here is Solano County we are only allowed 2 handguns. I hope they change that soon.

Not identical. Each has a unique serial number, which, along with other aspects of the weapon are recorded on your LTC and reported to the DOJ.

Define "hassle". As a minimum, you have to show the same training proficiency as with the other weapons. This requires a training class, time, and cost. Then you need to clear through the IA. Sometimes this requires a formal appointment and re issuance of the license. Sometimes not. Depends on the IA. As others noted, Sac Sheriff is swamped and has halted changes on licenses to handle new issue and renewal.

This site has an entire section dedicated to CCW, with some breakdowns by geographical area. Look under Politics, Litigation and Activism headers. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=179

Might be. Thinking about something special?

But even Colt SAAs seem to have serial numbers, so that seems a bit unusual. I imagine some imported milsurps may not have a S/N.

No general reason that lack of a serial number would be a problem, but likely a decision for the local issuing authority.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
